Obituary For Wray Dennis Adams
It is with great sadness that the family of Wray Adams of Slave Lake, Alberta, announces his passing on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 78.
Wray was born on July 26, 1947, in Berwyn, Alberta, to the late Nickolaus and Margaret Adams. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Brenda Johnston (2016), his cherished stepdaughter, Brandy Johnston (2002), his father Nickolaus (1969), his mother Margaret (1988), his niece Deannine Dechant (1997), and his father-in-law Ken Johnston (2022). Wray lived a full and generous life. He completed his training at the Maritime Ranger School in Fredericton, New Brunswick, before beginning his career as a forest officer with the Alberta Forest Service. He later worked with Seguin Construction and went on to spend many years with Petro-Canada before retiring. No matter where he worked, Wray earned the respect and friendship of his colleagues. He was known for his quick wit, distinct laugh, kindness, and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Outside of work, Wray found joy in fishing, gardening, and spending time outdoors, especially while tending to his yard. He loved to cook, and it was not uncommon to walk into his home to the comforting aroma of freshly baked sourdough bread. Wray also cherished time with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and good food. Throughout the years, Wray faced his share of health challenges but always remained positive and upbeat. No matter how much pain he was in, he would always tell everyone he was "doing great." During this time, he was blessed with the companionship and support of his dear friend, Judy, whose kindness and devotion made it possible for Wray to remain in his own home. Her care and friendship were a true blessing, bringing brightness, care, and laughter to his days.
Wray is survived by his siblings, Glen (lona) Adams of Camrose, Alberta; Eileen Adams of Grande Prairie, Alberta; Cathy (Ed) Dechant of St. Albert, Alberta; and Debbie (Magella) Ouellet of Tangent, Alberta. He will forever be remembered by his many nieces and nephews as the uncle who made life lots of fun—always a kid at heart, eager to join in on whatever they were doing. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Carole Johnston, along with Brenda's siblings, nieces, and nephews, and many other close relatives and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
Wray's memory will forever be carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Wray's life will be held at a later date. In keeping with Wray's generous spirit, memorial contributions can be made to the University Hospital Foundation - Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (https://givetouhf.ca/ways-to-give/).
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Wray's dear friend, Judy, and the staff at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for their kindness, care, and support during this time.

Our sincere sympathy to Glen, Eileen, Cathy and Debbie, Judy and all their families. Haven't seen Ray for years but he was a great guy when he stayed with mom and dad. Contagious laughter was a trade mark.
