Obituary For William "Bill" Lawrence Littleton

On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, William “Bill” Littleton, longtime resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 90 years.

William was born at the Grande Prairie Hospital on June 16, 1935, and lived in Grande Prairie, where he attended school. William married Shirley McLean on September 21, 1956, and they raised three sons. He worked as an electrician with Cookshaw Electric and the Alberta Government Public Works department. He progressed up the ranks with Alberta Public Works to become the Area Superintendent. William also spent a considerable amount of time travelling to and from Edmonton as the acting Provincial Director for the Alberta Public Works Department. He retired from the Alberta Government in 1991 after 27 years of service.

William will be lovingly remembered by his three sons, Gregg (Pat), Brent, and Murray (Connie). He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and longtime family friend, Hans Volkert.

William was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, in 2014; his parents, John and Laura Littleton; his brother, Robert Littleton; and his granddaughter, Rhea Littleton.

He will always be remembered for his commitment to family and friends alike, Kinsmen, K40 Clubs, and his love of golf, which he participated in until just before his passing.

A celebration of William’s life will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave) with Reverend Gord Waldie officiating.

    Bill & I first met in 1963 and we immediately became great friends. He was the easiest person to get alond with and he never had a bad word against anybody. Although I have not seen him personally in a number of yeats, we stayed in contact. My deepest condolences goes out to the family. My thoughts are with you. May he rest in peace. Al Wright
