Obituary For William "Bill" Harry Lovell

William “Bill” Harry Lovell, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the age of 78 years.

Bill was born March 20, 1944, in Eston, SK, and was raised near Lacadena on a farm. His entire 50-year career was in the oil industry, and he was a lifetime member of the Grande Prairie Petroleum Association. He pursued career opportunities that led him and his family to live in many places such as: Drayton Valley, AB; Red Deer, AB; Swift Current, SK; Kindersley, SK; St.John’s, NL; Adelaide and Perth, Australia; Slave Lake, AB; Fort St. John, BC, and Grande Prairie, AB, where he resided for the past 37 years.

Bill enjoyed outdoor activities. He especially liked to fish, and it didn’t matter if it was summer or winter or if it was at a nearby lake or the ocean at Prince Rupert. When he wasn’t fishing or thinking about fishing, he liked to golf. He enjoyed the challenge and social aspect of the game and helped organize the G.P. Oilmen’s golf tournament for many years.

Bill had a green thumb. He took pride in his garden and made sure the yard was always in tip-top shape. He was an avid coin collector and was always on the lookout for those that he was missing. Bill also enjoyed going for coffee regularly with his friends to talk about the issues of the day.

Above all else, Bill was practical with common sense and sound judgement. He had tremendous fortitude and dealt with life’s challenges head-on. He didn’t worry about things he couldn’t control and thought that if he worked hard, everything would work out in the end.

Bill was devoted to his family and will be deeply missed by Fay, his wife of 55 years; sons Bruce (Raquel) and Brad; grandchildren: Harold, Torren and Adriana Lovell; sisters: Verna, Sharon, and Marlene Lovell; half-brothers: Jay (Linda), Ace and Kelly (Janet) Lovell; as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Vern Lovell and Ellen Byers; step-mother Thresa Lovell; step-father Peter Byers; half-brother Duff Lovell, and step-nephew Tylor Lovell.

The Lovell family wishes to thank the health care professionals at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital for their dedication and care.

Bill’s request was for a private memorial for the immediate family.

I was fortunate to work for Bill for many years at Halliburton and then later on Golf with him almost every Sunday for many years. During that time I was delighted by his humour and great conversation. Only a very short time ago I was able to have breakfast with him and another buddy Earl. I will miss him. Ray Mildenberger
