Obituary For William "Bill" Glenn Currie

William “Bill” Glenn Currie, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, after a short battle with cancer, at the age of 80 years.

Bill was born on February 1, 1942, in Rabbit Lake, SK, the 10th child born to Archie and Ethel Currie. Bill and his parents came to Grande Prairie in 1953, and became lifelong residents.

Bill worked a variety of different jobs before being hired at the Daily Herald Tribune which turned into a 40 year career as the Head Pressman/Production Manager. Over these years he made many lifelong friends.

Bill always had a love for the outdoors, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends. He also loved being outside in his garage, where he could be found repairing or fixing everything from his vehicles to lawnmowers. He was always on the hunt for parts. There was nothing he couldn't fix. Bill was a unique man with an awesome sense of humour, and loved the simpler things in life. He cherished his family and friends.

Left to mourn his passing are: his beloved wife of 56 years, Arlene (nee Oilund); daughter Laura (Sean) McIntosh; 3 granddaughters: Jamie (Phil), Madison (Matthew), and Lauren (Patrick); 2 great-granddaughters Peyton and Addisyn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents Archie and Ethel; 5 brothers: Al, Orville, Alf, Jim, and Don; as well as 4 sisters: Nettie, Doreen, Betty and Florence. The family wishes to thank all the Doctors and Health Care providers on Units 21 and 23 for their kindness and compassion shown to Bill during the last month.

To honour Bill's request there will be no funeral service.

In lieu of a celebration, the family would ask you to raise a toast in Bill's memory. That is what he would have wanted. Bill will be forever loved and missed. May you rest in peace.

We were saddened to hear of Bill's passing & send our sincerest condolences to Arlene & family. I have many fond memories of working with Bill at Airways Truck Rentals. I remember sometimes when I would ask him to deliver a vehicle to the middle of nowhere, in the middle of winter, he would act all mad and grumpy, but always with a twinkle in his eye and even a bit of a smile as he pulled out of the yard. And he was always willing to help with whatever needed to be done, even on the craziest of days. May God bless you Arlene & family, and we will be raising a glass in cheers to you Bill.
