Obituary For Wilbert Roderick Lizotte

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Wlbert Lizotte on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. He was surrounded by his wife Lorraine, and four children as he took his last breath and entered into God’s loving arms at the age of 91 years.

Wilbert was born in North Vermillion, AB on June 6, 1932, to Narcisse and Elsie Lizotte, where he grew up with seven brothers: Clarence, Amos, Clifford, Howard, William, Hilaire and Ernest; and his only sister Alice.

Wilbert met the love of his life Lorraine, in Fort Vermillion at a baseball game. They married on December 28, 1961 and celebrated 62 years of marriage in December 2023. They lived in Manning, Innisfail and Grimshaw, finally settling in Grande Prairie for the last 36 years.

Wilbert was a successful salesman for most of his life, selling vehicles and RVs in the Peace Country. He loved sales, meeting people, never forgot a face and every customer was a new friend to him. He retired at the age of 75.

Wilbert had a passion for music and was a gifted musician. He expressed this as he played many instruments including the fiddle, guitar, mouth organ, accordion and keyboard. He was part of a couple of bands which included the Northern Aces. He was the happiest when playing for his family, and we all loved to listen to him play. With his love for music he also had a love for hunting and enjoyed many hunting trips with his brothers-in-law, friends and family.

Wilbert had a charismatic personality and lit up any room he entered. With his infectious belly laugh, he could brighten anyone’s day. He was always kind, welcoming all into his life with open arms and didn’t pass judgment on anyone.

Wilbert has had many roles in his life, but most important to him were husband, father and Papa/Grandpa, and we were all blessed with him. He excelled at being the best he could be to all of us. We will all miss his loving and gentle ways, his laughs, jokes and way of making each one of us feel special, but most of all having him here with us.

Left behind is his loving wife Lorraine; children: Dolores (Kevin) McBride, Ross Lizotte, Valerie (Conrad) Deleeuw and Tracy Lizotte; grandchildren: Jillaine Janes, Aaron Gauthier, Tonita (Adriana) Janes, Coltyn (Lacey) Deleeuw, Kristyn (Chris) Vanderweide, Shaylin Deleeuw (Chris), Cashtyn Deleeuw and McKenzi Lizotte (Rav); great-grandchildren: Benson, William, Hadley, Hudsyn, Holdyn, Chevy, Triggs, Aubrey and Dottie.

Wilbert was greeted into heaven by his parents Narcisse and Elsie; brothers: Clarence, Amos, Howard, William and Hilaire; and his only sister Alice.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Prairie Lakes in Cobblestone Cottage, for their loving care of Wilbert for the last ten months.

Join us in remembering this great man, Wilbert Lizotte, on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 11:00am at Olivier’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave.), Grande Prairie, AB.
