Wesley Herbert Smith resident of Hythe, AB, formerly of Beaverlodge, AB, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at the age of 89 years.

He was born on June 13, 1933, in Wembley, AB, and raised in Beaverlodge on his parents farm, the only son to John and Edith Smith with three sisters; Evelyn, Elsie, and Joan. He was educated at the little country school of Mountain Trail at the bottom of Saskatoon Mountain. Wesley married the love of his life Elvie Morrison in 1957, having two children, Debra and Dennis. Wesley worked as a mechanic at Windsor Ford and farmed his half section outside of Beaverlodge.

Wesley loved to garden, growing one in his eighties, he also made saskatoon and raspberry wine, enjoyed visiting with friends, a good joke while sharing his wine. He played the accordion, guitar, and fiddle. He and Elvie loved to dance and go to Jambore’s all over the country; and in the evenings, he would get his instruments out to play music. He was a snowbird for many years, traveling with the motorhome into the USA for the winters. Wesley enjoyed camping and fishing and was always looking for that big fish.

He will be sadly missed by his son Dennis; daughter in-law Deborah; grandson Preston; granddaughter Anna; sister Joan Cameron; sisters in-law Linda See and Carrol Allen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family. and friends.

He was predeceased by wife Elvie; daughter Debra; siblings Elsie Smith and Evelyn Morrison; sisters in-law: Christine Bryan, Edith Hogue, Myrtle Melnyk, and Aileen Patterson; brothers in-law: Donald Morrison, Percy Morrison, Neil Morrison, and Leonard Morrison.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Luncheon to follow. Interment to follow at Beaverlodge Cemetery.
