It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wayne John McKinney must announce his passing with family by his side on November 19, 2025, at Prairie Lake Estates in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 78.

Wayne was born in Deloraine, MB, on January 6, 1947. He was the youngest son of William and Mary McKinney and was raised on the family farm along with his three brothers, Bob, Barry, and Lloyd, and two sisters, Marlene and Fran (Jim) Commet.

Wayne attended school until the ninth grade, and at the age of 17, he embarked on an adventure to Alberta, where he worked, operating heavy equipment. On his days off, he met Ramona and her two daughters, Debbie and Roxanne. Not too long after, Lloyd came along, and then on August 16, 1969, Wayne and Ramona got married.

In 1975, Wayne and Ramona bought a farm and raised their kids in the country. When the kids grew up and slowly departed, the farm became too much work. It was sold, and Wayne and Ramona moved to Grande Prairie. As years went by, his kids brought life and joy into their home with seven grandchildren, Chrystal (Joe) Fehr and Blair Bell (Kristen Bourree Perry), the children of Debbie; Cody, Brylie, and Tryten, the children of Roxanne; and Kyle and Ashley, the children of Lloyd; great-grandchildren, Pyper and Rowyn, the children of Chrystal; Kambryah and Skylar, the children of Brylie; Amelie, Emery, and Greyson, the children of Kyle; and Lincoln, the son of Blair.

Wayne was predeceased by his brother, Lloyd; followed by his parents, William and Mary; his brother, Barry; on August 8, 2011, his wife, Ramona; and in 2024, his brother, Bob.

Wayne found it tough to be confined and limited to things he could tinker with. His son moved back to Grande Prairie in the summer of 2023 and was able to ease some of the dry times, eventually acquiring a vehicle to take him out on adventures and see the countryside.

The funeral service for Wayne will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave). Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon in Oliver’s Tea Room.
