We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Wayne Albert Metz

Wayne Albert Metz, resident of Sexsmith, AB, and born on October 19, 1947, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Deloris (Iles, Stith) Metz; his children, Amanda (Danny) Nobbs, Paul (Mara) Metz, Jennifer (Dr. John) Ogrodniczuk, Shawn (Abby) Metz, and Melissa (Ben) Rogers; his stepchildren, Daniel (Pam) Stith, Natalie Stith, and Jordan Stith; his siblings, Carol Nilsson, Darlene (Barry) Chorney, and Darrell Metz; as well as many grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gertrude “Gertie” Metz and DeLacy “Bud” Metz; his sister, Donelda Cochrane; his brother-in-law, Dwight Nilsson; and many other beloved family members.

Wayne was a full-hearted storyteller and a deeply committed professional who took great pride in his work as an electrician. He had a strong appreciation for a challenge and was always ready to meet one with determination and skill. Over the course of his career, Wayne owned and operated Ranger Electric and worked for Titan, Flint, Tornado, and Tervita. Many of his stories were drawn from the challenges and experiences of the oil and gas industry, a field he knew well and embraced with confidence.

His musical talents were astonishing. Everything from teaching guitar, playing multiple instruments, and even building a few guitars, his passion and love for music were things he carried throughout his life.

Wayne also had a deep love of conversation and an abiding curiosity for the details of life. He was always attentive, often asking thoughtful questions and inviting others to share more than they expected. If you spent time with Wayne, you knew you were likely to leave with a story, a laugh, and the feeling that you had been truly heard. He brought warmth, interest, and joy to every room he entered, and his presence will be deeply missed.

The graveside service and interment will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Emerson Trail Cemetery in Sexsmith, AB.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca/) or the Alberta Diabetes Foundation (www.albertadiabetesfoundation.com/).
