We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Violet May Allen (née Schwerdt)

Violet May Allen (née Schwerdt) was born on July 28, 1938, to Frank and Elisabeth Schwerdt in Marina (Worsley), Alberta. She was the fifth of eight children and graduated from the Worsley School in 1957.

She married Irvine Allen on November 14, 1958, and they began their married life, farming outside of Worsley. They had two daughters and three sons. Eventually, they left the farm and were the custodians for the Worsley School for many years until retirement.

Violet’s retirement was spent in her beloved garden, enjoying family, and spending time camping with Irvine. They lived out most of their retirement years until they moved to Rycroft, Alberta, to be closer to their children in their final years. When Irvine passed in December 2022, Violet moved to the Pleasantview Lodge until her passing on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

Violet is survived by her children, Theresa (Elmer), Barbara (Bill), Murray, Douglas, and Scott (Dawne); her grandchildren, Mark, Cindy (Paul), Spencer, Brandy (Tyson), Cathy, Wesley, Justin, Axel, Brandon (Jynette), Britney, Dennis (Jenna), and Michael (Shaylin); great-grandchildren Tylynn, Zack, Dominic, Anna, Aimery, Atticus, Rhett, Orion, Jason, Tristan, Avery, Hayden, Beau, and Miles; siblings Reta and Dale; and a large extended family of nephews and nieces that were dearly loved as well.

She was predeceased by her husband, Irvine; grandson Brett; sister Annie; and brothers Ernie, Victor, Bobby, and Winston (Linda).

Her memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Worsley School (216 Alberta Ave, Worsley, AB), followed by a luncheon.

Family members will gather prior to the service for a private interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation in Edmonton (https://www.stollerykids.com/donate/).
