Obituary For Violet Marie Tait

TAIT, Violet Marie, 87 years young of Grande Prairie, AB. Violet passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at ECU Mackenzie Place in Grande Prairie.

She was born on November 7, 1938, at home in Roselea, AB. Violet met and married her husband, Robert (Bob), in Edmonton, AB, and since 1962, they had made Grande Prairie their home.

Violet had a very successful bookkeeping career of 24 years. She loved the great outdoors, and following that passion, was an avid hunter and a recreational and commercial fisherman. She was a wonderful friend to many people and impacted people in such a positive way with her straightforward and practical attitude towards life. Violet had an incredible love and passion for her husband and extended family.

She was a great carpenter's assistant. Bob and Violet built the family's favorite hide away—a log cabin at Sturgeon Lake. She also created many other projects, such as the grandchildren's toy boxes and deck chairs for all her family. As kids, we were very lucky to be beneficiaries of these accomplishments. Since 1962, Violet had been an active member of the ACT (Associated Canadian Travelers) Ladies’ Auxiliary. ACT is an organization that contributes to those in need, such as seniors and the mentally disabled.

Bob, her devoted and loving husband of 46 years, predeceased Violet as well as her son, Darren, and her daughter, Colleen.

Violet is fondly remembered by her daughters: Gail (Ross) Rowland and Diane (Larry) Reber; son-in-law Walter Born; eight grandchildren: Amanda, Jennifer, Timothy, Carleen, Jessica, Pamela, Riley, and Kaylee; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Skyler, Trinity, Kadence, Tahlia, Claire, Keirsten, Wyatt, Twilah, Raeleigh, Lochlan, Fionn, Oliver, and Sophia.

Violet’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at People's Church in Grande Prairie (11850-108 St). Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon. Interment will follow at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Ave and 112 St).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca/) or the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton (https://www.stollerykids.com/donate/).

Condolences

  • November 27, 2025

Gail, Diane and family, so sorry for your loss. Bob and Vi were special friends when Dale & I lived in Grande Prairie. Dale was in food sales as well and a member of ACT. Bob used to tease me as being older than him by one day. I last saw Vi in Yuma many years ago but kept in touch every year with a long letter in a Christmas card. My condolences. Carol Gaehring
