Obituary For Ursula Anna Delfs (nee Pankow)

It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts, that we announce Ursula Delfs, resident of Edmonton, AB, formerly of Woking, AB, and Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022, in Edmonton, AB, at the age of 89 years.

Ursula was born to German immigrant parents, Else and Gunther Pankow, on their homestead in Westmark, AB, on September 26, 1932. She was many things to many people: a farm wife, mother of four, gardener extraordinaire, author, community volunteer, a sensitive and supportive friend, and a beloved teacher to hundreds of students. Her accomplishments and contributions are varied and many. We will remember her as a remarkable woman who generously shared her time and many talents with her family, her friends and her community.

Ursula will be sorely missed and always treasured by her four children: Ellen (Slavko) Bunjevac, Brenda Delfs, Eric (Laura) Delfs, and Dwayne (Natalie) Delfs; her seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her three sisters: Gerta Kut, Heidi Riggins, and Irma Tierney, and her brother Dieter Pankow.

She was predeceased by her parents; many dear friends; and most significantly, the love of her life for 65 years, Hans Delfs.

It is a great tragedy that Alzheimer’s Disease robbed such an intelligent and creative mind of the last years of her life. The family would like to thank Dr. Surmawala and the staff of Lifestyle Options Whitemud in Edmonton, for their kind and compassionate care over the last 2 ½ years.

A Funeral Service for Ursula will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 2:00pm, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northmark, AB.

In appreciation of Ursula’s love of flowers, please pick a bouquet for your own enjoyment in remembrance of her. Or in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and NWT (102, 9823 116 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B4), or to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Northmark (76404 Range Rd 70, Saddle Hills County, AB, T0H 3V0) would be gratefully accepted.

Our condolences to all the family. I heard Ursula's name many times in my childhood. I believe Ursula and my Mom (Myrtle Sloat Diederich) were close to the same age and were school friends. May she now rest in peace....
