Obituary For Susan Muriel Holland

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our deeply loved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Susan Muriel Holland, of Grande Prairie, Alberta, on Monday, January 19, 2026. She was the heart of our family and leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Susan was born in Edmonton, Alberta, in the late evening of December 31, 1950—in classic Susan fashion, arriving fashionably early and just shy of becoming the New Year’s baby of 1951.

She spent most of her childhood and youth in Edmonton, where she excelled in competitive swimming and, despite her well-known dislike of hairdressing, won numerous awards for it in her senior year. That talent and determination eventually led her to a successful 40-year career as a business owner and nail technician.

In 1987, opportunity brought Susan and her family to Grande Prairie. There, she became known as “Happy Hands by Sue,” a name many in the community still remember today, with many clients remaining lifelong friends. Fiercely independent and never afraid to speak her mind, Susan lived by her own rules and encouraged others to do the same.

Coordinated outfits, interior design, and bright, vivid colors often come to mind for all who knew her. Her sharp-tongued wit and wicked sense of humour left lasting impressions. If you met Sue, you remembered her.

Sleepover breakfasts with Grandma were legendary: chocolate cake, cheesy croissants, and “coffee milk” were a staple. To her grandkids, she was proudly known as “the cool grandma.” They often heard, “That’s your Grandma??” as she tore up the asphalt in her newest ride, music blasting, sunglasses on. Her spirited driving earned her the affectionate nickname “Cruella.”

Susan is survived by her brother Bill Holland (Jeannette) and family, of Kelowna, BC; daughters Audra King and Alison Ross; grandchildren Jordan King (Chelsea), Keaton King, Ethan Laflamme, and Jenae Laflamme; and her special little light, great-granddaughter Ellis King.

Susan’s passing leaves an immeasurable loss in our lives. We will carry her laughter, her lessons, and her love with us always. She was one of a kind, and we were lucky to call her ours.

As per Susan’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
