Obituary For Steven Ralph Selke
Steve Selke, a lifelong resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. He was 53 years old.
Born and raised in Grande Prairie, Steve was well-known throughout the community for his passion for hockey, baseball, and his dedication to his work. His friendly nature and love for sports left a lasting impression on many, and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
For the past 17 years, Steve worked in shipping at Weyerhaeuser, where he was a valued and respected member of the team. Before that, he spent a decade working for his uncle, Ernie Selke, at his small sawmill located on the Weyerhaeuser site.
Steve was a very quiet man with a wicked sense of humour. He found a second family among the colleagues he worked alongside — a close-knit group of friends at a job he truly loved.
Steve leaves behind the two loves of his life, his mom, Mildred Selke, and his brother, Curtis Selke. His closest friend, Albert Cooper, along with many aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Ralph Selke, as well as many other family members.
A celebration of life for Steve will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made in Steve’s memory to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue (bandagedpaws.org/ways-to-help).
