Obituary For Steve Belyan

Steve Belyan, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 87 years.

Our family has heavy hearts and deep sorrow due to the sudden loss of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather. We find it hard to describe this wonderful, gracious man because he was simply everything that was good. Steve Belyan was our rock and he meant everything to us. He will be missed by many and forever loved.

Steve was one of 7 children, born to Mike and Julia Belyan in High Prairie, AB, on November 11, 1933. He met Juliana Hartman while working as an orderly in Whitelaw, AB. They married in 1957, and moved to Grande Prairie in 1958, where he continued to work as an orderly in the Grande Prairie Hospital until 1974. He then switched careers and worked for Canadian Freightways until his retirement in 1995.

Steve had a love for everything outdoors. He valued sharing his knowledge with his children, his grandchildren and all family and friends. He looked forward to family reunions or any family gatherings that brought everyone together.

He was a quiet leader in the church, sharing his faith and leading by example. His strength came from his faith.

Faith, family and friends, this is what defined him. He always had a smile, a chuckle and time for coffee with anyone.

He will be deeply missed by his children: Randy (Tammie), Dennis (Laura), Gerald (Karen), Allan (Janice), and Maureen (Rocky) McLeod; as well as 22 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. He had an immense extended family and numerous friends who will sadly miss him.

He was predeceased by his wife Juliana after 58 wonderful years of marriage.

“Dad your guiding hand on my shoulder will remain with me forever.”

All are welcome to attend the Memorial Mass Celebrating the Life of Steve Belyan on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 2:00pm, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St.). Reception to follow at Tranquille Hall. Please bring your fondest memory to share with the family.

I had the priveledge of knowing Steve through my nephew's wife, Maureen (daughter of Steve's). He was a beautiful soul and visiting with him always left me feeling good about life. He was so easy to talk to and his love of his family was very evident. His positive nature was a true pleasure to be around. My deepest condolences go out to his family. I hope they can take comfort in knowing he is once again with his beloved wife. Sincerely, Rose Donnelly
