Obituary For Stephina Tuchscherer Meier

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Steph Meier announce her passing on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the age of 94, at Mackenzie Place (1 West), in Grande Prairie.

Steph was born on January 22, 1923 to Frank and Anna Tuchscherer in Tramping Lake, SK, the fourth youngest of a large - his, hers and ours - family. From a young age she helped with family chores. In 1940, she married Phil Meier and together they embarked on a journey that was filled with new experiences, lots of good times, lots of wonderful memories, and brought two children, Don and Sharon, into this world.

Steph had a number of occupations but loved her job as a ward clerk at the University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK., where she formed many lasting friendships.

Steph was a very caring and generous mother/grandmother, wonderful friend, very family oriented individual, gracious hostess, dedicated and hardworking employee and a woman of strength and courage. She accepted life as it came with grace and endurance. Her long life gave her the opportunity to enjoy her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son and daughter in-law Don and Donna Meier, their daughter Lori Ostergaard and her son Markus. Steph is also survived by her daughter and son in-law Sharon and David Kimble and their children Becky (Brad) Ratzlaff, Lorne (Iona) Kimble and their children Merrick, Ewan and Gerard, Kirk (Alana) Kimble and their son Axel, and Jody Kimble (Roy Bosse). She also is survived by sisters Barbara Mock and Betty Brotzel; sisters in-law: Claire Meier, Maria Meier, and Dorothy Whaley; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband Phil in a car accident in 1981, parents Frank and Anna, 11 sisters and brothers, and her grandson in-law Billy Derksen.

Many thanks to the staff at Mackenzie Place (1 West) and to Nicole Van Rootselaar for their compassion and loving care of Steph.

Steph will be remembered at a service on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 4:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in Saskatoon, SK. where she will rejoin her husband, Phil, to rest in peace.

Memorial donations may be made to The Resident Council at Mackenzie Place (10409 98 St., Grande Prairie, AB T8V 2E8) or a charity of your choice.

Aunt Steph had a very special place for myself, Roger, Stacey, Leanne and Adam. From the time I lived at their home and started nursing There were times I don't think I would have got through the nursing program if it had not been for Aunt Steph"s help and encouragement. For all 3 of our kids she was their first babysitter and looked after them too many times to count. We both worked at the hospital and shared many laughs, antidotes and annoyances over the many years. She was a second Mom to me and she will be missed. We send our sympathies to your families. She was a very special person. She was kind to everyone she came in contact with. We loved her dearly. Our deepest sympathy. Love and Hugs Shirley and Roger and family
