With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Sophie (Sophia) Thiessen of Grande Prairie, Alberta, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the age of 88 years.

Sophie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Valerie Thiessen, Lorna Thiessen, David Thiessen, Bernie Thiessen and Lauraleen Huget (née Thiessen); her grandchildren, Michael Schartner, Kristen Schartner, Darci Thiessen, Holly Thiessen, Brandy Thiessen and Matthew Pagnotta; great-grandchildren Skyla Seguin, Noah Boyko, Lily Boyko, Rylee Thiessen-Weir and Wren Thiessen-Weir; daughters-in-law Marlene Thiessen and Jennifer McDonald; son-in-law Dave Huget; sister Mary Chubay; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Jacob Thiessen, and daughter, Thelma (Tami) Thiessen.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 – 107 Avenue, Grande Prairie), followed by interment at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Avenue and 112 Street).
