Obituary For Sonia Irene Hesse

Sonia Irene Hesse, daughter of William and Irene Nadorozny passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital with family at her side, at the age of 81 years.

Sonia was born August 13, 1940, at the family farm in Harmon Valley, where she enjoyed berry picking, the garden with unique vegetables, their barn with the hay loft, and their horses. At the age of 13 the family moved to Grimshaw.

Sonia met Joe in Grimshaw, and they were married on April 1, 1959. They lived at Hawk Hills on the homestead, in Concert, and in Edmonton, before settling in Manning, where they lived until 2005 when they moved to Grande Prairie.

Sonia was very dedicated to family and instilled in her children the importance of family time. She did not hesitate to put others’ needs before her own and was generous with her time towards others without expecting anything in return.

Sonia will be lovingly remembered by her husband Joe of 63 years; her four daughters: Monica Hesse, Bridget (Mike) McAndrews, Teresa Onyschuk, Brenda (Dan) Holm and three sons: Joe (Margot) Hesse, Francis Hesse and Brian Hesse. She will also be sorrowfully missed by 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, her sister Jennie Deley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sonia was predeceased by her siblings: Helen, Mary, Michael, and Fred.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at 2:00pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St.). Interment will follow at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave and 112th St.).

Condolences

Condolences on the passing of your wife and mother. Sonia was a wonderful person and a great friend. Even after some of us moved on from "the Drugstore", several of us gathered for lunch, and after Sonia retired, she would get to Sing's and hold the table for all of us who were still working. We had such wonderful conversations. After Joe, Sonia and Fran left Manning, my family and I would get together for a few hours in GP and catch up. Sonia's Christmas letters were always so nice and I loved her family updates, when her children were marrying and adding grandchildren, Sonia was always so happy to speak of her growing family and so proud of their accomplishments. Sonia was able to write so much in her Christmas cards because of her tiny and straight writing, even with no lines, and her beautiful writing never changed with age. Vicki Hudema
