Obituary For Simon Menjivar

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Simon Menjivar, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of San Salvador, El Salvador, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Grande Prairie at the age of 79 years.

Simon was born on October 25, 1946, in San Salvador, El Salvador. An incredibly hardworking and generous man, he was often found helping others. Simon was exceptionally friendly, kind, and loving to all those around him. He enjoyed singing, going for picnics, taking walks with his wife, and tending to his beautiful garden. Although he was always so proud of his garden, what characterized him the most was his love for and attention to his family. He made each family member feel cherished and welcomed. Unity in the family was especially important to him.

Simon will be dearly missed by his wife, Laura Menjivar; his children, Carmen Rivas, Magdaleno Menjivar, Dora Parada, Oscar Menjivar, and Norma Osorio; his grandchildren, Jason Parada, Jennifer Parada, Marixa Parada, Marco Parada, Cris Parada, Selena Parada, Jasmin Rivas, Elizabeth Rivas, Susana Rivas-Sarvari, Alina Menjivar, Karina Menjivar, Lucas Menjivar, Alicia Osorio, and Ronaldo Osorio; and his great-grandchildren, Annalia Castillo-Rivas, Ziraili Castillo-Rivas, Camila Griffiths, Amirah Griffiths, Jaylen Griffiths, Anthony Rivas-Sarvari, Kensley Jeselon, and Elio Osorio.

He was predeceased by his brother, Francisco Menjivar-Molina, who passed away in 2025.

Viewing took place on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie. The funeral mass was held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by interment at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Ave & 112 St). Afterward, friends were invited to join the family for a luncheon in Tranquille Hall at the church.
