We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Sigrid Margarete Ursula Muehrer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sigrid Muehrer on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Spirit River Hospital at the age of 91.

Sigrid Muehrer was born on December 30, 1934, in Westmark, Alberta, to Liselotte and Carl Heinz Muehrer. As an infant, she went to Germany with her parents due to her grandfather being ill. Unfortunately, the war broke out, and they were unable to return to Canada. Three more siblings were born in Germany: Inge, Mickey and Ruth. In 1953, at the age of 18, Sigrid returned to Westmark with her family and took up another homestead.

Sigrid, without understanding much English, took a job working for Wilma Bird in Blueberry, Alberta. In 1958, she moved to Vancouver for ten months and worked in a butcher shop. After that, she returned to Alberta and worked as a cook’s helper in a lumber camp, followed by oil camps. In the late 50s, she attended McTavish Business College in Edmonton. She got a job at UFA in Edmonton and worked there from 1961 to 1999, retiring at the age of 65. She returned to live in Westmark after her retirement.

Sigrid enjoyed travelling and went to many places, including Hawaii (three times), Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Europe, as well as Qatar, the UAE, and several trips to Germany to visit family. She did two bus tours: one to Eastern Canada and one to the States. She also went on an Alaskan cruise. Sigrid enjoyed reading and playing crib and cards, as well as visiting with family and friends.

Sigrid was predeceased by her parents, Liselotte and Carl Heinz Muehrer; sister Inge Toerper; brother Mickey Muehrer; sister-in-law Loretta Muehrer; and brothers-in-law Otto Toerper and Wally Jensen. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Jensen; sister-in-law Lynne Muehrer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Her celebration of life will take place on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northmark, AB.
