Obituary For Sherman Ray Robideau
Sherman Ray Robideau, born on September 18, 1953, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Born and raised outside Grande Prairie, Alberta, in the Crystal Creek area, Sherman was the firstborn of eight children to Ray and Jean Robideau. Family was always at the center of his life.
On September 27, 1980, he married Kathy, and together they raised two children, Kurt and Kirby.
Sherman worked for the County of Grande Prairie and later spent many years as a realtor before working as a heavy equipment operator. Sadly, an injury prevented him from continuing. Though stepping away from his career was difficult, it opened the door to one of the most meaningful chapters of his life, caring for his grandson while his daughter and son-in-law worked, forming a truly special bond.
He loved gathering with family, whether at the farm, around Ray and Jean’s table, at Wendell’s cabin, or at family suppers. He especially enjoyed listening to loved ones sing and play guitar around the campfire or in his parents’ basement. Sherman also loved curling, playing in his younger days and cheering on games in later years.
Known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor, Sherman had a way of lightheartedly ribbing those he loved most, for whom he always had a creative nickname ready. He brought laughter wherever he went. A proud grandfather to Kayden, Kinley, and Breanna, he cherished every moment spent with them.
Sherman is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathy; his children, Kurt (Debbie), and their daughters, Kinley and Breanna, and Kirby (Scott), and their son, Kayden; as well as Pat (April), and their sons, Caleb and Nathan, who reconnected with the family later in life; his siblings, Wendell (Myrna), Chris (Cindy), Trudy (Gregg), Debbie (Brent), Charlotte (Mike), Janice (Alan), and Roberta (Jim); sisters-in-law Joanne and Sandy (Mike), and their children, Sara and Ryan; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Jean Robideau; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Al and Kaye Krog; his brother-in-law, Ron Andres; nephews Scott Robideau, Chad Robideau, and Ryan Ferris; and niece Shonie Gillespie.
In keeping with his wishes, no formal funeral will be held at this time. A family gathering will take place this summer to celebrate his life.
Sherman will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his humor, his love of family, and the stories and songs that will continue to be shared in his memory.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (https://givetouhf.ca/donate-now/) or to a charity of one’s choice.
