Obituary For Sheila Ann McMillan

Sheila McMillan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, on her terms at the age of 82 years. She is now without pain or confusion, and for that we are truly grateful.

Sheila was born on October 29, 1941 in the town of Forfar, Scotland. After the war, she travelled with her parents and siblings to Canada on the RMS Aquitania Ocean Liner. They landed in Halifax and boarded a train bound for Edmonton, AB where they lived briefly before moving to Dawson Creek, BC. They finally landed in the suburbs of Victoria, BC.

Shelia’s gypsy soul allowed her to live in many places – Brentwood Bay, Edmonton, Mt Currie, Prince George, Fort St John, Dawson Creek, Castlegar, Armstrong, Anaheim Lake, Spirit River, Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge and Saanichton – making friends along the way.

Sheila brought three children into this world: Alan (Joanne), Bonnie and Shannon (Clark). However, her children didn’t quite make the cut once her grandchildren arrived: Colton (Kristen), Chloe (Mike) and Cooper. In a sad turn of events, she never got the joy of holding her first great-grandchild Lucas, but she was so proud to have been given the gift of being a GREAT-grandma.

Sheila settled down with Chuck in 1983 and added two stepsons to the mix: Brent (Daelyn and Morgan) and Byron (Wanda – Brayden and Bryce). They moved around trying their hand at different businesses. She had her restaurant Sheila’s Soup & Sandwich in Vernon, and it was there she blossomed. Her love language was acts of service, so she was really in her element during this time.

In 2004, Sheila lost Chuck suddenly and within months was dealing with Cancer. She was a tough egg to crack even though Cancer gave her a good run for her money. She came through on the other side, but her health was never the same.

In 2011, Sheila retired to Vancouver Island. She lived a quiet life, coming up North a few times to visit family and friends. She truly enjoyed the ocean and being closer to her brother and where she grew up. About a year and a half ago, dementia started presenting in her life and she slowly started disappearing into herself.

Sheila was predeceased by her parents George and Betty Ross; sister Carolyn Ross; and husband Chuck McMillan.

Left behind with many great memories are her children, grandchildren, great-grandson, as well as many extended family and friends.

As per Sheila’s wishes, there will not be a Funeral Service.

Memorial donations can be made to an animal shelter in your area or to the Canadian Cancer Society (https://cancer.ca/en select the donate button).
