Obituary For Sarah Robinson
With saddened hearts, we announce that Sarah “Sally” (Dutkewich) Robinson passed away peacefully in Grande Prairie, AB, on January 9, 2026, at the age of 93 years. She was surrounded by her family and has now been reacquainted with our dad, Mel Robinson, her parents, five of her siblings, and of course, with our Lord Jesus.
Born to Alexander and Christina Dutkewich on December 25, 1932, in Swan River, MB, Sarah was the sixth in line of eight children. She had many fond memories of her childhood living on the farm in Swan River. At seventeen, she moved to Benito, MB, to work for a family. The following summer, she moved to Oshawa, ON, with her sister, Olga, and her husband, Victor. In 1955, Sarah moved to Vernon, BC, and worked as a waitress at Johnny’s Restaurant. It was there that she met her future husband, Melvin. On August 24, 1960, Melvin and Sarah tied the knot back in Swan River. From there, they lived in Port Moody, then Maple Ridge, and lastly in Coquitlam, BC, where Melvin passed away in August of 1993. After 21 years of work at Colony Farm Institution in Coquitlam, Sarah retired in 2008 at 65 years old and, later that year, moved to Grande Prairie to be with her children.
Sarah dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband of 33 years, Melvin Elroy, and their four children. Her greatest joys were cultivating time with her family and friends and working in her garden. Sarah could always be counted on to bring a delicious dessert to any church or family gathering. She was always up for a game or two of Scrabble or Skip-Bo. She could often be found in the lobby of her condo, working on the community puzzle with neighbours.
This past holiday season, we were able to be together as a family to celebrate her 93rd Christmas birthday and New Year. She also got in a few games with us, eventually winning a Scrabble game or two. Mom had enjoyed pretty good health for most of her life, although she did have somewhat less mobility over the last year and her heart had been weakening a little. Even so, she still wanted to live on her own and did so right up to the end of her life.
Mom is survived by her sister, Anne (Roy) Alder; her brother, John (Ann) Dutkewich; her children, Brady (Sharon), Kelly (Tina), Pamela (Bob), and Kimberly (John); thirteen grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin; her brother, Paul; and her sisters, Mary, Nancy, Alice, and Olga.
Mom will be moved from Grande Prairie to join Dad at their final resting place in Surrey, BC, at Valley View Cemetery.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Valley View Funeral Home in Surrey (14644 72 Ave). The service will be preceded by a viewing from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. for family and friends and followed by the interment at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley View Cemetery. At 12:30 p.m., a buffet dinner and celebration of life will be held at Covenant of Life Church in Langley, BC (20280 97 Ave). We would be honored if you would join us for a time of fellowship as family and friends, where even more stories, pictures, and videos of Mom's life will be shared. There will be an open-mic opportunity for those who would like to share stories or memories of our mother. We will also try to livestream the 10:00 a.m. memorial service for those who cannot attend in person.
There will be another celebration of her life on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Family Fellowship in Grande Prairie (9831 109 Ave).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the One Child Fund (onechildfund@cogop.org), a cause close to Mom’s heart.

I loved the time I spent with Sally! She always had some practical advice or an anecdote or memory to share, however my favorite memory of her is how she made me laugh. She was a strong, courageous woman, with perfectly curled blonde hair.
