Obituary For Rylan James Anderson

With immense sadness, we announce the tragic passing of Rylan James Anderson, on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at the age of 21 years.

Rylan was born in Red Deer, AB, on June 3, 2000, and had lived the past 9 years in Grande Prairie, AB, until moving to Edmonton, AB, in the summer of 2021.

Rylan will be remembered for his fierce friendships, compassion for others, and his quick and intelligent sense of humour.

If Rylan could ask how he would like to be remembered and honoured, he would ask people to be accepting of all others and to create spaces for all people to be included and welcome. He used this recipe to build incredible friendships and he would be pleased if all of us drew on his example as we carry on in life.

Rylan is survived by his parents Jon and Annette Anderson; brother Jaryn; his girlfriend Sky; grandmother Carol; grandparents Karen and Larry Lanciault; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rylan was predeceased by his grandparents James and Jacqueline Anderson.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave). A recording of the service will be accessible 1 hour after the service on Rylan’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

A Graveside will be held on Friday, June 3, 2021, at 1:00pm, at Forest Home Cemetery in Ponoka, AB. A small gathering to follow at Hudson’s Green Nature and Activity Centre.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (9713 100 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0T5).

Jon I am sorry this is so late - I remember vividly hearing about this tragic accident but my heart shattered when I heard this morning that this was your son. There are no words that can adequately comfort you & your family but just know that I am thinking of you.

I worked with Rylan at Century Park Cellars. We worked together Wednesday the 22nd, the night before... over the months of working together we shared and discovered that his Mom and Uncle and I went to the same high school in Red Deer and that I had also lived in GP. We talked about how he had all the unwrapped gifts in his car to wrap and "use up moms wrapping paper"when he got home the next day. I laughed because my own son had just come home from Ontario with a suitcase of gifts to wrap using my supplies. He was working hard on a work project and brought him a tea to his work space. We talked about the crappy drive from Edmonton to Grande Prairie and he said he'd been watching the roads reports all night. At the end of the evening I wished him safe travels and a Merry Christmas 🎄 I'm so sorry for this tragic loss and I think of him often and hug my own grown boys a bit tighter. 🙏❤️

I know we weren't as close as I wish but I'll still really miss him. He's the reason me and my wife got into "dungeons and dragons" and because of that I'm grateful. I'm glad he was able to experience life as much as he did, like moving out on his own and finding someone he loves. I know lots of people care for you and will miss you, just know that you'll still be in all of our hearts for a very long time, thank you for being a good cousin and a good friend.
