Obituary For Rodney Norman Floen

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Rodney Norman Floen on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, three days after celebrating his 90th birthday.

Rod was born on Saturday, January 27, 1934, in Entwistle, Alberta, to Norman and Ellen Floen. He attended school around Alberta, except one year in BC, finishing his education at the Vermillion School of Agriculture. He later moved to Grande Prairie. While working, Rod earned his electrician’s ticket, wiring several buildings.

Rod married Ruth in April 1958 and the adventures continued. They were blessed with three children. Rod and Ruth farmed for a few years, remembered as their most enjoyable times. He later managed and sold farm machinery for Co-op Implements and ran Shell businesses among other jobs prior to his retirement.

Ruth passed away in February 2017 leaving a void in Rod’s life. He met Elizabeth later that year and they were married in July 2018.

Rod was a devoted family man. He loved playing ball, watching sports, playing cards, reading, wood-working and more recently playing pool.

Rod will be lovingly remembered by his children Karen (Cal McNeil) Floen, Wendy (Mark) Simpson, and Lyle (Aly) Floen; grandson Joe (Sarah Rivet) Lewis; great grandchildren Alejandro and Leni; wife Elizabeth; sisters Carol Punt, Arlene Morgan, Ann (Phil) Smith and Lynn (David) Takahashi as well as numerous family members and friends.

Rod was predeceased by Ruth, his loving wife of 59 years; parents Norman and Ellen (Crantz) Floen; brother in-law Phil Punt; father and mother in-law Clifford and Gertrude (Hanson) Floen; and sister and brother in-law Dorothy and Ronald Floen.

A Memorial Service for Rod will be held at the Valhalla Lutheran Church on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 1:00 pm.

For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Rod to the Valhalla Cemetery, PO Box 29, Valhalla Centre, Alberta, T0H3M0.
