Obituary For Robert William "Bob" Thomson

Robert William Thomson, resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the age of 79 years.

Bob was born on March 24, 1946, in Outlook, Saskatchewan, to Phyllis and William Thomson. He was raised in Hawarden, Saskatchewan, where he developed the strong work ethic and steady character that guided him throughout his life. Bob trained as a heavy-duty mechanic and spent his career working in the trade, a profession he took great pride in.

Known for his kindness and dependability, Bob was someone you could always count on—steady, caring, and willing to lend a hand. In his early years, he coached hockey, sharing his love of sport and supporting young athletes both on and off the ice.

Bob enjoyed landscaping at the farm and took pleasure in caring for the land. He loved spending time with his dog and participating in many sports throughout his life. Whether working outdoors or enjoying a game, he valued staying active and connected.

Bob will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Lorraine Thomson; his children, Dean (Carrie), Scott, and Chad; his grandchildren, Taylor, Brody, Drue, Ethan, Reese, and Alyssa; his siblings, Betty (John) Cameron, June Thomson, Judy (Don) Cameron, and Murray Thomson; and Lorraine’s siblings, Melvin (Sherri) Heikel, Bernice Heikel, and Diane (Art) Davis. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his loving dog, Buddy.

He was predeceased by his parents, Phyllis and William Thomson; his son, Shane; and his niece, Heather Cameron.

Bob’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave), with friends and family warmly invited to join. Following the service, a luncheon will be served in Oliver’s Tea Room. In the spring, interment will take place at Saint John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Wembley, Alberta.

A livestream of the funeral service will be available for those unable to attend in person. The link will be available shortly before the service begins.

Bob’s steady presence, kind heart, and love for family and community leave a lasting legacy. He will be remembered not just for what he did, but for the warmth, care, and quiet strength he brought into the lives of everyone around him.

Donations can be made to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association (bandagedpaws.org/donate), in memory of Bob’s love for animals.

While every effort is made to ensure a smooth livestream, technical or broadcast issues may occasionally occur beyond the control of Oliver’s Funeral Home.
