Obituary For Robert "Robby" Allan Bevans

Robert “Robby” Bevans, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Lloydminster, AB, and Wainwright, AB, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age 79 years.

Robby was born at Vermilion, AB, on the 23rd of August 1942. At age of 7 the family moved to Wainwright, AB. He had 2 beautiful sisters and 3 brothers which made this vibrant, bright, and energetic family a handful for his petite mother, as his father was a first-generation oil man and away a lot.

Robby wasn't interested in school so, he would hike from the school back to the farm which was a 7 mile trek, following the railway tracks. His father soon sent him to work if he wasn't staying in school.

His teen years burst with action as he became an accomplished thoroughbred racehorse jockey, racing all over Alberta and Saskatchewan. He then became an exceptional competitive boxer for a short time. He and his 3 hockey crazy brothers played on the same line for the Wainwright Commandos, winning their fair share of tournaments.

When his father's health started failing, he took over his father's oil wells at a very young age progressing to driller. He stayed in the business for a number of years.

On the 24th day of February 1967, Robby married his first wife Inez Delene Christian. Together they had 4 sons (no daughters allowed was Robby's direction to Inez. She dutifully complied). They became involved with Jehovah's Witnesses following in Robby's mother's footsteps and raised 3 of their sons as such. Although, the spiritual training was left to Inez, he supported her whichever way he could. Robby ensured the family made it to their conventions, although for 10 years he worked every day, minding gas wells after he had left the oil patch.

When the resource sector crashed in the 80's, the family found themselves moving to find work. First Hinton, AB, then Grande Prairie which is where they remained. Robby worked with his millwright training and contract worked all around the Peace Country. He also used his skills and hard work benefitting the now defunct Sexsmith Canola Oilseed Plant.

Through 1995-1996, Robby saw the death of first his beloved wife of 28 years from cancer, then his precious mother, and lastly, his adored dog Muffin. His grief was profound.

Some 3 years later, Robby met and married his second wife Margery, on September 24, 1999, who came with 3 daughters. This resulted in a lot of adjustments (no daughters remember). Robby never backed away from responsibilities or challenges. The families learned to accept and like one another. Margery and one daughter (Daphne) also became one of Jehovah's Witnesses to his extreme pride.

Robby was an avid snowmobiler, quadder, and camper. Both wives and all the children learned to enjoy the outdoors with him.

With Margery, he was exposed to traveling out of the country and got to visit Playa del Carmen, Yuma, and Cabo San Lucas. He enjoyed getting away for the winters.

In 2017, Robby experienced 2 back-to-back heart attacks and some strokes which then precluded them from traveling any more. Over the next 5 years he experienced more health problems and succumbed to a peaceful death on July 4, 2022.

Robby was exceptional with his hands; assessing a problem, tearing it down and reassembling it. He was a natural leader, worked hard, and treated his people fairly.

Robby was always very committed to his family and loved them deeply. He was the kind of person that complete strangers would pour out their troubles to and he listened empathetically. He spoke about Jehovah, his God, whenever he could as he had firsthand experience of how God had supported him and wanted others to experience the same.

He wasn't baptized until April 14, 2018, but always referred to himself as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and lived his best accordingly.

He is survived by his only remaining sister Marjorie (Russ) Harding; only remaining Uncle Wes Stewart (103 years old, who is going to miss Robby's visits terribly); 2 sisters in-law; 1 brother in-law; wife Margery (daughters - Mandy (Braidi, Ryli) Kari, and Daphne); his sons: Dennis (Donna) Rea, Kim (Adrienne and children - Mycah, Jayvin, Sara, Leah), Travis (Ashley and children - Elizabeth, Penelope, Truett, Elias), and Harvey (Erica and children - Luke , Katie); as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and his adoring cat Phoebe.

Robby was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Agatha Bevans; younger brother Jimmy; older brother Dale; older brother Roy with his wife Irene; as well as older sister Elsie.

He will be profoundly missed by his family and congregation of which are awaiting the promises from God:

Revelation 21 :3,4 'With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: "Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

Many thanks go to Dr. Pope, Donna (receptionist), and Dr. Prada; the staff at McKenzie Place (wonderful people), and staff at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital in Unit 11.

Cremation arrangements are being handled by Oliver's Funeral Home in Grande Prairie.
