Robert "Bob" Babuik

Obituary For Robert "Bob" Babuik

Robert "Bob" Babuik was born on November 1, 1943, in Spirit River, Alberta, to Sarafina (Sadie) and Nick Babuik. He grew up in the Rycroft area and later attended SAIT, where he studied radio technology. After completing his education, Bob returned home and built a career as a real estate and insurance agent.

On August 30, 1969, Bob married Joyce Whelan, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in family and community. Bob was an active sportsman who enjoyed broomball, curling, baseball, and slow pitch. He also loved the outdoors and spent many enjoyable hours hunting, fishing, and camping.

Bob was deeply committed to his community and served the Village of Rycroft for many years as both mayor and councillor. Since July of 2023, Bob resided in long-term care in Fairview and Spirit River.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce; son Dallas (Amanda) and granddaughter Kaci; daughter Danelle (Curtis) and grandsons Brayden (Kate), Levi, and Kolby; and his sister, Linda (Chris Lomenda).

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Peace Health Complex Resident Council (Box 330, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0; cheque payable to “Central Peace Resident/Family Council”), Diabetes Canada (www.diabetes.ca/), and/or Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca/).
