Obituary For Reinhold Georg Gerber

Reinhold Gerber, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Hallstadt, Germany; passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 59 years.

Reinhold was known for his loving and sweet heart, his calm and gentle manner, his stubborn and humorous wit, and his ability to be patient in the most stressful of situations. Reinhold was born in Banat, Romania, and when his family moved to Germany, he eventually found his loving wife Margit and between them had two children. His son, Patrick was adopted by Reinhold from birth, just showing truly how selfless and caring of a man he was. It was never known that he wasn’t his biological son, and cared for him as his own. Reinhold’s determination and motivation immigrated the family to Canada in 2000, which landed them with many friends in the community.

He loved camping, hunting, fishing, smoking meats, cooking, woodworking, and rocking his stylish t-shirts. His favourite read: “Never laugh at your wife's choices. You are one of them”. It was one of the things that nurses loved to read every morning in the hospital as he was fighting his sickness. His humour was what kept us going through every hard downfall. Reinhold was fighting a rare disease called PML, a fight that was really difficult for all of us but he never gave up in those 4 months. He didn’t enjoy being told what to do and proved the doctors wrong a handful of times. Reinhold is one of the strongest men, he fought hard every day.

One of Reinhold’s favourite jobs was as a Parts and Delivery driver, and every October 1st, he would start to grow out his white beard; by December he would have a full-grown beard and drive around in a Santa hat, making so many strangers’ day. Reinhold loved his job, making people smile and showing his soft tender side.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Margit; his children; first born, Patrick; second born, Ines (Randy); his father Georg; sister Renate (Michael); niece Bettina; as well as great-nephew Mika.

He was predeceased by his mother, Margit Gerber (nee Wolf).

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 1:00pm, at Faith Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie (9610 108 Ave.).
