Obituary For Reginald "Lloyd" Ireland

It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to Lloyd Ireland, yet with deep gratitude for the gift of having shared our lives with him. Surrounded by his family, Lloyd passed away on July 30, 2025, at the age of 76, after a courageous four-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Lloyd was born on September 11, 1948, to Bud and Eva Ireland. He was welcomed into their loving home by his sister Gayle and later joined by his brother Danny. Lloyd spent his childhood in Wanham, AB, where he formed many lifelong friendships and nurtured a love for hockey, baseball, and horses.

In September 1973, Lloyd met the love of his life, Terri Lynn. After a whirlwind two-month courtship, they were engaged and married the following June. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Together, they raised two sons, Bradley and Riley. Lloyd poured his heart into guiding them to become kind, dependable, and responsible men. His family was his greatest pride and joy.

Lloyd adored his grandchildren—Alicia, Zachary, Faith, Lauryn, and Kingston—and treasured every moment he spent with them. Whether cheering them on at events or watching their games on his iPad, he was their proudest supporter.

Hockey was a lifelong passion. From playing on frozen ponds in his youth to suiting up for teams like the Grande Prairie Athletics, Hythe Mustangs, and the Sexsmith “Men-O-Pause” Oldtimers, Lloyd’s love for the game never waned. He found equal joy in watching Bradley and Riley play, and later, in cheering on Zachary, Lauryn, and Kingston.

Lloyd had a successful career in agriculture and oilfield sales. He truly loved his work—especially the people he met along the way. He had a gift for conversation and a remarkable memory for names and faces, turning acquaintances into lifelong friends.

In retirement, Lloyd became a dedicated "mall walker," enjoying morning coffee with friends and reconnecting with familiar faces. Watching the Oilers, Blue Jays, rodeos, horse races, and chuckwagon events kept him entertained and engaged.

Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Bud and Eva Ireland; his sister, Gayle Moline; his nephew, Tom Gregg; and his father- and mother-in-law Danny and Shirley Shannon.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Terri Lynn; sons Bradley (Cecille) and Riley (Shannon); grandchildren Alicia, Zachary, Faith, Lauryn, and Kingston; brother Danny (Ardis); niece Shannon Dean; nephew Bob Gregg; in-laws Jim (Karen) Shannon, Cindy (Donald) Hollingworth, and Lori (Mitch) Koll.

In honoring Lloyd’s wishes, no formal memorial service will be held, but we will be joined in remembering him by the many friends he made over the years. Know that Lloyd appreciated every one of you. We also want to thank Dr. Duta and the dedicated staff of Unit 22, for their care and compassion in his final days.

Lloyd, we love you. We miss you. But we know you’re already surrounded by old friends, sharing stories, laughter, and maybe a drink or two—as you continue watching over us with that ever-encouraging spirit.

“It is what it is.”

I didn't know Lloyd well. He was one of my first hello's when I arrived at the mall most mornings as he was seated with his friends having cups of coffees. We exchanged little conversations sometimes in the line up at Tim Hortons. He was a very kind soul. I am sorry to hear he has passed my sincerest condolences to all his friends and family. Kindness no matter how small leaves big impacts and he left legacy in the smallest of interactions.

So sorry to hear of Lloyd's passing and having to fight cancer. I found keeping memories of them, talking and remembering them was the most healing ( if one ever fully heals) way with dealing with my grief. Terry Lynn I know we have seen each other for sometime but take care and although only having a smaller friendship with Lloyd agree with all the good things people shared about him.
