Obituary For Phyllis Viola Peters

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was born February 3, 1929, in Regina, SK, and passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the age of 96

Phyllis resided at Mackenzie Place Continuing Care Centre for the past 6 years, where she was always cared for lovingly and with compassion. She spent her days working on painting rocks and diamond art to ensure she had one made of every member of her family. She loved showing off all her crafts to whoever came in. When not at her desk she could be found roaming around in her electric wheelchair and at times her children would tell her to slow down. Phyllis always talked about her beloved stuffed puppy, a constant companion who brought her comfort and joy. The puppy was always there ready to be hugged, loved and even helped her sleep better.

As a teenager Phyllis worked in the Moffatts war factory making shells, she would often talk about those days. She worked at the factory until the war was over and then she moved to Blue Bell, SK, with her parents. There she met and married Harold on February 11, 1948. Together they farmed in Rock Island District, SK. On October 17, 1948, their family expanded as they welcomed their first daughter Caroline into the world. Unfortunately, on January 2, 1949, their house burned to the ground. Phyllis always joked that she grabbed her old, ragged ski pants rather than the new ones she had just bought and almost forgot to grab baby Carol. After the fire, they moved to Meadow Lake where they raised the rest of their family. Over the next 10 years Phyllis took in and fostered many children.

Phyllis is survived by her 4 children: Caroline (Chuck) Folks, Dwayne (Frances) Peters, Sharon (Larry) Hinz, and Terry Peters; grandchildren: Cindy (Dwayne), Daryl (Eva), Shawn, Amanda (Ryan), Coralie, Chris (Kierstin), Kim (Tim), Crystal (James), Terell and Ryen; 18 great -grandchildren and 2 great great- grandchildren

She was predeceased by her husband Harold of 67 years.

Phyllis’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mackenzie Place Continuing Care Centre for their compassionate care and support over the last 6 years.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Grande Prairie Cemetery on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 1:00 pm (84th Avenue – 112 St, Grande Prairie, AB).

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
