Obituary For Pauline Burrell
It is with great sadness that the family of Pauline Burrell of Grande Prairie, formerly of Rycroft, announces her passing at the age of 95 years. Pauline passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 20, 2015 at the Grande Prairie Care Centre. Pauline was born to James and Clara Donovan on October 1, 1919 in Renous, New Brunswick, the third of six children. At the age of two, she and her family ventured west by train, settling in Regina and later the Crowsnest Pass. She married Ben Burrell on November 6, 1940 in Calgary and together they enjoyed 63 wonderful years. They spent the early part of their marriage living in the Crowsnest Pass, Turner Valley area and Bawlf, finally settling in Rycroft in 1955 where they resided for many years with their daughters Noreen and Casey. After Ben''s retirement from the oilfield, they moved to Grande Prairie where Pauline spent nine years working as manager of the Co-op cafeteria. Pauline was known for her kindness, sense of humour and especially her delicious baking. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and scrabble which kept her mind sharp until the end. Grandma Polly loved spending time with her grandchildren, camping, knitting, sewing, cooking, berry picking and enjoyed the odd trip to the casino. Pauline and Ben loved to travel, a highlight being an extended vacation to Europe. After Ben''s passing, Pauline continued to venture with her daughters and enjoyed a beach vacation to Mexico at the age of 92! Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters Noreen Sandul and Casey (Steve) Kushneryk; grandchildren Wendy Sandul, Sheldon Sandul, Carrie (John) Polard, and Melanie (Ken Loiselle) Kushneryk; great grandchildren Travis, Corben, Hayden, Dylan, Torey, Kiersten, Tiana, and Kelan. She was predeceased by her husband Ben Burrell, parents James Donovan and Clara Stringer, stepfather Charlie Stringer, son-in-law Pete Sandul, granddaughter-in-law Diane Sandul, and siblings Dorothy Burrell, Jim Donovan and Warren Donovan. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Grande Prairie Care Centre for their compassion and exceptional care given to "Grandma." Pauline will be deeply missed by all who knew her and will live forever in our hearts. A celebration of Pauline''s life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Oliver''s Funeral Chapel (10005 - 107 Avenue) in Grande Prairie, Alberta. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the CNIB or the charity of one''s choice.
