Obituary For Paul Brian MacIsaac
It is with profound sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of Paul Brian MacIsaac, affectionately known to so many as Red, on October 16, 2025, in Grande Cache, Alberta.
Born on January 2, 1965, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Paul was one of thirteen children born to two loving parents, Catherine (née Campbell) and Bernard MacIsaac. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved brother Billy (Josephine), and his beautiful sister Kathy.
Paul will be forever missed by his brothers Peter (Janet), Johnny (Marley-predeceased), Jimmy (Emily), Michael (Mary), Danny (Lucy), and Robert (Vivian); and by his sisters Donna Botte (Greg), Gerry (Gary), Mary, and Martha. He also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, as well as chosen children Tara and Tyler Arbuckle – all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Paul loved his brothers and sisters deeply; they were not only his family, but his very best friends.
Roughly thirty years ago, Paul made the brave move west to Alberta, settling in the beautiful community of Grande Cache, where he built a life rich in friendship, laughter, and adventure. The people of Grande Cache became his second family, and his presence there left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.
Throughout his working years, Paul was employed at both the Grande Cache Mill and the Grande Cache Mine. To Paul, work was simply a way to fund what mattered most — good times with good people. He lived his life unapologetically, on his own terms, with his signature humor, charm, and an unwavering love for Black Lucky beer.
From a young age, Paul’s personality shone bright — so much so that friends dubbed him Red, a nickname that stuck with him for life. His brother and lifelong partner-in-crime, Robert, known as Bull, shared in many of his adventures — long before “energy drinks” made that name famous.
Paul loved the outdoors — whether it was hunting, fishing, quadding, or simply sitting by a fire with a cold beer in hand. He enjoyed playing darts, spending time by the river, and belting out a song or two at his favorite spot, the Sky High Lounge.
Above all, Paul’s heart was as big as his laugh. His door was always open, and he’d gladly share whatever he had with anyone who came through it. He was stubborn and funny, with a sharp wit and just the right touch of sarcasm. You never had to guess what Paul was thinking — he’d tell you straight, whether you liked it or not.
We could not have chosen a better son, brother, uncle, and great-uncle to share this life with. Paul’s time with us was far too short, but his love, laughter, and spirit will live on in every story told around a fire, every dart game, and every shared beer in his memory.
Paul passed peacefully at the Grande Cache Hospital, surrounded by family, friends, and — fittingly — one Black Lucky beer.
…to be continued, Paullywog.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Grande Cache Legion #278 (2400 Pine Plaza Rd, Grande Cache). Another celebration of life will be held at a later date in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, with details to be announced.
Live, love, laugh!
Condolences
