We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Patsy Delphine (Fredrickson) Thompson

Patsy Delphine Thompson, 86 years, from Edson, AB

Patsy was born in Sexsmith, Alberta, to Fred and Mary Fredrickson. Patsy loved her Norwegian heritage and passed along many traditions that her family carries on today. She liked to race bikes as a child and stock cars as an adult, winning several powderpuff races.

Patsy had several jobs, but most of the time, she was self-employed with Gib. She lived in many places throughout British Columbia, as well as Alberta, and owned a store in both Quesnel and Wells, BC. She finally settled in Bezanson, Alberta, with lots of family nearby to keep her company and entertained. Patsy could hold her own in a battle of wits and played to win. She eventually fell ill and moved to Edson. As she started feeling much better, she had many years of family gatherings and outings. She was very loved and adored by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Patsy passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and will be deeply missed by ALL!

Patsy was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert Oscar Thompson. They were married on April 2, 1957. She was also predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Bernice Stark, Alroy Fredrickson, and Rodney Fredrickson.

She is survived by her children, Derek Thompson, Debra (Kelly) Burgess, Kim (Calvin) Derr, and Shelly (Randy Hart) Snaddon; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tiffany) Burgess, Nicole (Brett Meyer) Staves, Brandon (Kaeli MacLennan) Schwitz, Lauren (Jacob Theriault) Schwitz, Trent Thompson, Sasha (Brody Rokosh) Snaddon, and Ashley (Dwight Strong) Snaddon; her great-grandchildren, Caleb Staves, Haden Staves, Ryker Meyer, Cora Burgess, Sophie Burgess, Rowan Theriault, and Zayna Strong; her sister, Gloria Gordica; and her brother, Ken Fredrickson.

A service is to be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10407 100 Street, Grande Prairie, AB, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with interment and fellowship to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to the Edson Community Foundation (https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/donate-to-make-a-difference-7976).
