Obituary For Olga Mary Schwemler

Olga Schwemler, lifetime resident of the Sexsmith, AB, area, passed away at Mackenzie Place in Grande Prairie, AB, on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the age of 96 years.

Olga was born on December 9, 1925, in Sexsmith and was raised in the area. She attended the country school of Canor and then St. Augustine Mission in Peace River, AB, until her father's poor health required her to help on the farm. She plowed fields with a team of horses, planted crops, ran a threshing machine and helped to care for her younger siblings.

Olga met John Schwemler at the Roman Catholic Church in Buffalo Lakes, AB. They were married on July 22, 1953, in Grande Prairie. Olga and John purchased land and established the family farm where they raised their three boys. Olga was a farmer and a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, making raspberry jam, knitting, crocheting, word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and long conversations on the telephone. She had a very soft spot for her feline companions. Olga was a longtime member of the CWL and faithfully attended mass in Sexsmith until her health failed.

She will be sadly missed by her sons: Randy, Gerald (Glenda), and Phillip (Angel); grandchildren: Tara, Tina, Brett, Antonio (Valisa), Nicholas and Christian; sisters: Lena, Phyllis, Alberta Floreani and Mary Jensen; sisters in-law Yvonne Floreani and Theresa Kokesch; as well as many nephews, nieces and friends.

Olga was predeceased by her parents Basilio and Rosa; sister Alberta; husband John; infant sons Gordon and Darrel; brother Angelo; sister Noemi Otto brothers in-law: Gordon Otto, Bernard Kokesch, Hans Jensen, Mike, George, Joe, Henry and Peter Schwemler; sisters in-law Annie Bulmer and Lizzie Zamba.

A Viewing will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 10:00am, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sexsmith. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Webster Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Diabetes Canada – Calgary (#220 6223 2 St. SE, Calgary, AB, T2H 1J5), or to a charity of one's choice.

    Schwemler Families, Sending our condolences on the loss of your mother. Remembering there was never a shortage of baking at your house and her very distinct laugh. Olga was a dear and special person. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.     Randy and families I am so saddened to hear of your moms passing, she was such a sweet lady. I will always cherish the ceramic rooster she gave my at work
