Obituary For Norman "Norm" Patrick Schau

Norman “Norm” Patrick Schau, long-time resident of Grande Prairie, AB, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton, AB, at the age of 75 years.

Norman was born in Medicine Hat, AB, on July 18, 1946. He was raised on a ¼ section of land in Teepee Creek, AB, with his 3 older siblings. He made it through six months of Grade 12 in 1964. He worked at McGavin's, only to become a Journeyman Welder in the mid 70’s. Everyone called him shorty. His Welding company’s name was Shorty’s Portable Welding, he contracted as a B pressure welder for over 30 years.

Norman was a very giving person and loved his family immensely. He cherished all his relationships. Norman was kind, gentle, but firm when he needed to be.

Norman enjoyed camping with his family, making farmers breakfast, and his trip to Mexico he took with his friend Bud. He liked Christmas especially blinking light, when he was taken on drives around the city or his old stomping grounds. He always enjoyed ice cream on the way home to Lakeveiw lodge, socializing, singing and dancing, shuffleboard, crib and beer nights.

Norman will be sadly missed by his children: Cindy Schau (Marcel Roy), Tracy (Kevin) Schau-Wharton, and Kevin Schau; grandchildren: Jorden Wanke (Amber), Kayla Wanke (Justin), Aidan Wharton, and Keira Wharton; sisters Judy Kakuschke and Edith Macaulay; as well as many extended family and friends.

Norman was predeceased by his wife Hazel Schau-Graham; father Paul Schau; mother Edna Schau; brother Don Schau; as well as brother in-law Egon Kakuschke.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 10:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave).
