Obituary For Norma Jean Bamping Biggs

In the early morning hours of Thursday, August 6, 2015 Norma Jean Biggs passed away peacefully in Grande Prairie, AB with family members present.

Norma was born July 3, 1935 in Peace River, AB to her parents Clarence and Luella Bamping. With her older brother Burnice, Norma grew up on the farm south of the Strong Creek Hall and attended Stuart School. In 1943 the family moved to the Weberville area where Norma attended the Weberville School until the school closed in 1949. Norma began grade nine in Peace River and at the end of the school year she stayed home on the farm to help her Mom. Norma worked for a short time at Telfer’s General Store.

Norma married Robert (Bob) Biggs on July 17, 1953 and together they had four children: Dennis, Anita, Leigh and Shelly. The early years were spent working in bush camps in northern Alberta and on the farm in the Weberville area. Norma also worked at the Crescent Motel, Horne and Pitfield Foods, The Dollar Store, and Sears.

Norma and Bob were very active in the Weberville Community and she was a director with the North Peace Gas Co-op. In addition to hunting and camping in northern Alberta and BC, they enjoyed travelling to the Yukon, Mexico, the Philippines, Hawaii, St. Lucia and the Bahamas.

Dad passed away in 1995 and Mom stayed on the acreage until 2000, when she moved to Grande Prairie to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Mom’s greatest love was her family and she was always so happy to spend time with them. Her other loves were dancing, gardening, decorating for Christmas, singer Daniel O’Donnell and collecting anything to do with owls.

Norma was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Luella Bamping and her husband Bob Biggs.

Mom will be terribly missed by her brother Burnice (Jeanette) Bamping; her children Dennis (Sharon) Biggs, Anita (George) Haunholter, Leigh (Nancy) Biggs, and Shelly (Tim) Sheehan; grandchildren Rob (Jenn), Holly (Jeremy), Kelsey (Ryan), Jason (Ashley), Trevor, Nicole (Mike), Kyle, Scott, Kelti, Jennifer and Ryan; great-grandchildren Jace, Liam, Sawyer, Gavin, Rhys, Emery, and Mateo; sisters in-law Mary Biggs and Audrey Kolibaba; as well as many nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart.

A Viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 7:30pm at Chapel of Memories in Peace River.

The Memorial Service for Norma Biggs will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Memories in Peace River, AB (9813-101 St.).

Sending my love to all of Norma's family who are hurting at this time. I met Norma at Freson Bros. she worked part time as she was retired, but she could keep up with the best of them! I remember a few Valentines Day's working so hard and for long long hours and Norma right in the mix with everyone! She had a great sense of humour and was quite the spitfire! I know she will be missed forever, but she will live on in your hearts forever.
