Obituary For Norah "Helen" Pike

Helen Pike, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Prairie Lake Hospice, at the age of 88 years.

Helen was born at home on May 26, 1934, in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. As a young girl she enjoyed the outdoors and could often be seen up in a tree and playing outside rather than inside learning to cook and clean. Her mother told her that she'd never learn either, but she proved her wrong. In addition to working full time, she cleaned her home, and was one of the best cooks we know! She was a mother bear to Don and Roxie. She was fiercely protective and hated seeing her children hurt or ill. She would do all things in her power to "fix" it. She prayed a lot.

Helen loved to be outdoors and worked in her yard tirelessly, she hated picking up pinecones though. She enjoyed baking and spoiled her children all with her cinnamon buns.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Don Pike (Janet), Roxie (Tim) Gill; grandchildren: Tyrone (Char) Pike, Barret (Joelle) Pike, Taylor Gill, and Jesse (Courtney Marie) Gill; as well as great-grandchildren: Hayden Pike, Kinley Pike, and Fritz Pike.

She was predeceased by her husband John Pike; mother Pearl Moyer; father Gordon Moyer; brother Orville Moyer; as well as sisters in-law Doris Moyer and Edna Charlton.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (100-119 14 St NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 1Z6), or to Alberta Diabetes Foundation (1-020 Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Research Innovation, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, T6G 2E1).

Sincere condolences to the Pike Family. I worked with Helen at Horne and Pitfield many years ago. She was always a pleasure to work with. In later years often would run into her around town and have a chat. Amazing lady!

Sincere condolences to Don & Janet. Although I didn't know Helen very well, she was a good friend of Agnes, Janet's mom, so I picture them sitting down for a tea when they meet in heaven. Can't you just hear them chatting away? I can. Janet Ophus

Our sincere condolences go out to the whole family. We lived just down the street from her since 1985, and she was such a kind & wonderful lady. She could often be found out picking up leaves or pine cones in her immaculate yard. We will miss her ever ready smile & friendly wave or chat as we walk by her home.
