Obituary For Nola Karen Burnside
Nola Karen Burnside, resident of Valleyview, AB, formerly of Virden, MB, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Valleyview Long Term Care Facility, at the age of 90 years.
Nola was born on December 8, 1934, to Fred and Elva Lifeso in Birch Hill, SK. The family later settled on a farm between Elkhorn and Virden, MB. Nola attended her early schooling in Elkhorn, where her mother was the teacher, and later continued her education in Virden. It was there that she met the love of her life, Cal.
She and Cal were married in 1954, in Virden, and soon began their adventure together, living in several communities across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta as they followed the oil rigs for Cal’s career. Along the way, they welcomed two children, Lloyd and Debra (Deb), who became Nola’s greatest pride and joy. After years of moving, Nola longed to settle down and build a permanent home. In the early 1960s, they chose Valleyview, where they planted roots and became an active, cherished part of the community ever since.
Nola began her career working at Valleyview’s first pharmacy before becoming the receptionist for Dr. Bell, and later for Dr. Schewgmann. During those years, she formed lifelong friendships that felt more like family than simply co-workers.
Nola was a kind, loving, and endlessly patient woman. Her greatest pride and joy were her family, whom she cherished deeply.
Nola had a passion for staying active and enjoying the outdoors. She loved curling and golf, and she took great pride in her garden and flower beds. Whether tending to her yard or caring for her plants, she found joy and peace in creating a beautiful space for her family and friends to enjoy.
She will be sadly missed by her son Lloyd (Connie) Burnside, and their children and grandchildren, Christopher Burnside, Jared (Adison) Braxton, Brinley, and Beckett Burnside, and Corey (Lorie) Burnside; daughter Deb (John) Prince, and their children and grandchildren, Deston (Cami), Cade, and Kenzie Reber, Tiesha (Jacob) and Keagan Reber-Joergesen; as well as numerous other family and friends near and far.
Nola was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Elva Lifeso, brothers Lloyd Lifeso and Elgan Lifeso, sisters Bev Chalmers and Marilyn Bacon, and loving husband Cal Burnside.
Memorial donations can be made to the Valleyview Health Foundation (https://mycharityfund.ca/charity/57659/valleyview-health-centre-foundation).
