Obituary For Nelson Victor Senft

We are grieved to share the news that Nelson Senft has suddenly passed away. He went to be with the Father on Monday, July 7, 2025.

Nelson is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Senft, and his children, Hannah (Caleb) Semenyna and Ben (Heidi) Senft. His grandchildren, Josie Semenyna, Seth Semenyna and Charis Senft, will miss him too.

Nelson was born in 1964 in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, to parents Victor and Eileen Senft. He had four older siblings: Ruth, Clifford, Dennis, and Donna. He was predeceased by his parents and Clifford Senft, and survived by Ruth (Norman) Porter, Dennis (Trudy) Senft, Donna (Wayne) Roeder, and sister-in-law Kathryn Senft. He is also survived by Margaret’s siblings, Elmer (Cathy) Enns, John (Louise) Enns, and Irene (Dave) Weiseth, and many nieces and nephews on both Senft and Enns sides. Nelson had been the pastor of La Glace Bible Fellowship Church for 29 years, a calling which he loved. The people are feeling the loss deeply, for they have lost their earthly shepherd.

Nelson got much joy from restoring his 1964 Chevy truck (“Old School”) and his John Deere 4010, reading books about 20th century history, and spending time with his family. The Lord blessed him with quiet compassion, a quick wit, a smooth singing voice, and a strong mind. We will miss his love and leadership in family and church, as well as his heart for God.

The funeral service will be held at the Grande Prairie Alliance Church (15502 102 St) at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 21, 2025.

Donations: Nelson emphasized discipleship and was on the board of Peace River Bible Institute. He also loved his local library. If you would like to donate in Nelson’s honor, send a donation via e-transfer to one of the following:

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;

you hold my lot.

The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

You make known to me the path of life;

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:5-6,11

    Nelson was my best friend and protector from grade 1 to 12 in Lipton. We loved talking cars, tractors and trains and studied together for exams although I could never beat him on the honor roll. Although we never stayed close after highschool, he would keep in touch through Facebook and I was lucky to see his restoration projects done"old school" I was hoping to get re-acquainted as I have more time now but there were other plans for my friend. Sincere condolences to the Senft and Enns family. Paul and JoAnne Rumancik

    I met Nelson and Margaret my first year of PRBI in 2014. They were so hospitable as they had me over for lunch for my first Sunday when I attended LaGlace Bible Fellowship. I attended LaGlace all three years of time at PRBI and I felt loved, welcomed, encouraged, and cared for by this humble and supportive church family(since I was a Saskatchewan girl so far away from home) I was so blessed to have Nelson and Margaret come and visit me in Regina in 2019 and then I spent some time visiting the two of them in the Peace Country two years later. It has been a joy of knowing them for the last eleven years. When I learned Nelson passed away, I was so sad. I am so grateful that I had the joy of knowing him and I am definitely going to miss him and his pastoral heart for his people. Margaret & family, I am keeping each and everyone of you in my thoughts and prayers! Lord willing I hope I will be able to make a visit out to the Peace Country soon and see you all! Emily McGillivray, Regina, Saskatchewan

    Sorry for your loss! Nelson was one of my teachers at PRBI and I loved taking his Timothy/Titus course. I also loved how much you could see in his life the love he had for Jesus and those around him. I also went to La Glace church alittle bit during my two years at PRBI, and everytime I went he always was able to have a conversation with me and remember little details that I had shared with him during other conversations. He was a wonderful man, and I will be praying for his wife Margaret and the rest of the Senft family! I will miss him, but I am looking forward to when I see him again!

    Nelson made such an impact at PRBI over the years! I got the pleasure of taking Expository Preaching while he taught it. It was a class I often looked forward to. He had this way of working with the Bible and seeing things in it that I missed. A very talented man, one that I learned lots from. My condolences to all the family. You will be missed by the student body at PRBI Nelson.
