Obituary For Monica Lynn Stojan

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Monica Lynn Stojan (née Camenzind) on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in Vancouver, B.C. Monica is survived and dearly loved by her husband, Mike; son Christopher (Amy) Richards; stepson Jeremy Stojan; stepdaughter Danielle Jay (Adrian); sister Angela (Wayne) Kenefick; sister-in-law Nancy and nephew Robert Camenzind; sister-in-law Denise Richards and family; along with her three beautiful grandchildren: Sebastian Richards, Austin Jay, and Olivia Jay. Monica was predeceased by her father, Robert (Bob) Camenzind; mother Margaret; brother Robert (Rob); stepson David Stojan; niece Dylan Hardy-Camenzind; and Darrell Richards.

Monica was born in Grande Prairie, AB, on November 12, 1960. After attending Swanavon Elementary and Montrose Junior High, she graduated in 1978 from Grande Prairie Composite High School. Her favourite school activities included band (clarinet) and choir. She was a participant in the Vienna ’76 high school choir trip to Italy and Austria. She continued singing in choir with her church and had an amazing voice.

Monica loved the outdoors and going camping, fishing, and hiking with her dad (Bob) and family. Bob immigrated from Switzerland and passed on his love of mountains and nature to Monica, as well as Angie, Rob, Chris, Wayne, and Mike.

Monica also loved cooking and baking. There was never a shortage of cookies, cakes, and other goodies in her kitchen. Her specialties of muesli, nachos, and cheese pie will never be equaled. When Monica became Nana, she was often seen in the kitchen baking with the help of Austin, Livi, and Sebby or endlessly playing with them.

Monica also loved get-togethers with her many friends and family and never forgot to send a birthday card—ever! She was employed with Canada Post as a mail carrier for decades, and after many thousands of kilometers walked, retired at age 55.

Monica had a very cheerful personality even when she was not feeling well in her long struggle with cancer. Much loved by her family and friends, she will be dearly missed by all. Throughout her life, Monica contributed to numerous charities, so in lieu of flowers, we would ask that a donation be made to a cancer charity of your choice.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie (9610 108 Ave), followed by a luncheon.

For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be livestreamed. The livestream will begin a few minutes prior to the service.

“Monica, we miss you immeasurably and will carry you in our hearts forever."

While every effort is made to ensure a smooth livestream, technical or broadcast issues may occasionally occur beyond the control of Oliver’s Funeral Home.

Condolences

  • May 08, 2026

I was deeply saddened to hear of Monica's passing. My sincere condolences to Mike, Christopher, Angie and their families. Monica and I worked together at Canada Post. She was one of the first people to make me feel welcome when I transferred to GPMPP. She always had a warm smile and a cheerful personality that brightened the workplace and made others feel at ease. Although we lost touch somewhat over the years, we always stayed connected through the exchange of Christmas cards, birthday cards, and little notes. I always looked forward to receiving a card from Monica. Her beautiful penmanship never failed to bring a smile to my face. Monica will be dearly missed by everyone whose life she touched. She brought kindness and warmth wherever she went, leaving behind memories that will be treasured always. Rest in peace, my friend. 💔

image.png Dear Mike: Please accept my deepest condolences to you, and to all Her Family.. In these extremely difficult moments of loss, let me share this photo that puts a smile on my face whenever I see it, regardless of the situation. It was taken during the Stojan's reunion in 2009 when Jean and I had that enormous honour to participate. I hope this photo of both our Loved Ones - Your Dear Monica together with My Dear Jean - sharing a good time of new friendship in spite of not being Stojan born, and feeling being put a little bit aside, as Jean explained, they had fun together with a bottle of a good champagne Jean brought, anyway. I have running tears mixed with smiles on my face being somehow convinced they may share their happy peaceful time together again, in those places they entered somewhere almost at the same time. I pray for it. Take care, stay safe. Love, Your Cousin Milena Elizabet Bourgois - Stojan, 07V2026, Edmonton

When the kids were younger we had many weekend dinners and adventures out at our place. Monica and I would take the quad and kids to explore down by the river or into Jack's gravel pit. One evening, when Chris was around 12, he asked if he and his friend could take the quad for a short run. Monica, ever the worrier when it came to Chris, hummed and hawed gnawing on her lips, when I turned to her and said, " Oh go ahead and let them. They'll be fine!" Off they went nice and slow down the drive. As they disappeared out of sight we hear them hit the throttle. Not 5 minutes later the boys are back looking a little disheveled and grass stained. Apparently they'd hit the ditch and rolled the quad. No harm done. "Well," I spit out, " They're alive. Lesson learned and the quad survived." That's when I got the Monica look and her infamous eye roll. 😂 Monica was my friend. I loved her. I will really, really miss her. Chris, Mike, Angie and family, my heart breaks for us all. We've lost a very special person.

Monica's parents and mine were good friends for as long as I can remember. I have good memories of the late 60's, early 70's. If someone from my past ever asked me who I thought of as a good Big Sister image, it was Monica. Not to be confused with older sister. I would have appreciated a Big Sister in my life. Monica, you will be missed by those that cared, and loved you enough for the wonderful human being you were. With that I will say...... Monica, please don't leave us behind, For our final days here are still left unsigned With our human condition, and how we're designed, It allows us our choices, and how we're defined For my thinking and thoughts, to which I'm resigned, Keeping mine good for you, gives me peace of mind My memories of you, I'll keep wonderful and kind, Keeping you in my Soul, so you'll be easier to find God speed Monica, Henry J Piepers

Dear Mike and all the kids and grandkids, Len and I are so sorry to learn of your tremendous loss. Monica was a beautiful soul whom I loved from the first moment I met her, many, many years ago. She was so bubbly and sweet, you just wanted to be in her presence. The world has lost an absolute gem. Sending much love to all of you. 🩷

Mike and Family, we were so sad to hear about Monica's passing. It was so nice to reconnect with her and you at the Stred cousin visit. We had gone to Sunday school/youth group with her many moons ago. Her poppyseed cake she brought was delish. She sent a lovely card afterwards. She was a caring and thoughtful lady.❤️ we have moved from GP, but know our thoughts are with you at this sad time. Alice and Kelly.
