We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Mike (David Michael Andrew) Meggitt

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mike (David Michael Andrew) Meggitt, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Beaverlodge, AB. After battling with cancer for more than eight years, Mike passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Prairie Lake Hospice, at the age of 57.

Mike was born on December 24, 1968, in Victoria, BC, to Andy and Noreen Meggitt. He spent most of his childhood in Beaverlodge before moving to Grande Prairie in 1987, the same year that he graduated. Mike was an oilfield man. Over the years, he tried out everything from chemical testing to working in sales. However, he’d always preferred to spend his time golfing, camping, fishing, or playing darts.

Mike will be sadly missed by his wife, Michelle Meggitt (née Doole); his children, Ryan, Sarah, Jessica, Morgan, and Jenna; his father, Andy; his sister, Debbie; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Noreen, and his sisters, Coleen, Heather, and Susan.

Our family would like to convey our gratitude to everyone who has supported us over this extensive journey. A special thanks to the incredible Home Care staff who went above and beyond to keep Mike at home for as long as possible. We also want to give a warm thank you to the kind and caring staff at Prairie Lake Hospice.

At Mike’s request, there will be no service, just a quiet family farewell.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (albertacancer.ca/donate/).
