We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Melba Rose Peace (Ray)
Melba Rose Peace was born May 8, 1940, in the old Beaverlodge Hospital (the log cabin on the hillside). Melba Rose Peace passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the age of 85 years.
Melba was the beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Ray family. She grew up in the Two Rivers area near Beaverlodge, surrounded by her large and lively family, the Rays, who were a close-knit clan that found joy in the outdoors, traveling, and gathering around a good campfire.
She carried that warmth with her throughout her life. As a young woman, Melba moved to Edmonton, AB, where she graduated from McTavish Business College. Upon graduation, she worked as a secretary with a Chartered Accounting Firm and then with the RCMP for several years before starting her family with Brian, whom she married on October 10, 1959. Melba devoted herself fully to her children as a stay-at-home mother. After a year in Calgary, AB, the family relocated to Grande Prairie, enabling her to be near her brothers and sisters. There, she re-entered the workforce in various administrative roles, including Spot Realty and Hommy Electric, eventually finding a long-term position with the City of Grande Prairie, where she served until her retirement.
Retirement brought Melba and Brian to their dream home in Aspen Ridge, giving her the chance to pursue hobbies, keep up with the Ray clan, and do what she loved most: opening her doors wide to family and friends.
Melba was a devoted grandmother who lit up when her grandchildren arrived. She always had something on the table, sweet or savory, for anyone who came through. She was admired for her cooking and her warmth as a hostess, gifts from her mother, Isabel. She loved a good joke, a trait she inherited from her father, Mel, and had a mischievous streak when it came to gentle pranks. Capturing her laughter was a delight, genuine, warm, and worth every effort. After 14 wonderful years on the acreage, Melba and Brian spent another eight years at Lakeview.
Melba is lovingly survived by her husband, Brian; her children Scott Peace (Shauna) and grandchildren Camdyn and Jordyn; Mardi Peace (Tracey) and grandchild Grayle; Lee Peace and grandchild Gracie; her surviving siblings Lois Olson, Rhoda D’aoust, brother-in-law Gerald Watson, Cecil (Dorothy) Ray, Norman (Geri) Ray, Judy (Ross) Hauger, Brenda (Chris) Antonio, Marlo (Norman) Saastad, and Darren (Ada) Ray, as well as their families; and the wider Ray family she adored.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mel and Isabel Ray; her in-laws, Basil and Mabel Peace; and her siblings Collis Watson, Dennis Ray, Ervin Ray, brother and sister-in-law Donald and Verna Peace.
A visitation for Melba will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave) in Grande Prairie.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home, with a luncheon to follow.
A livestream of the service will be available prior to the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Melba’s memory.
While every effort is made to ensure a smooth livestream, technical or broadcast issues may occasionally occur beyond the control of Oliver’s Funeral Home.

Unfortunately we will be unable to attend Melba service. Uncle Mel will have a joke or prank for her as she arrives in heaven. Melba extended her love of family to her Martinson family, she was the glue that connected us all. Thanks for the memories Melba. Gord & Karen Anderson
