Obituary For Marshall Willis Ruptash

Marshall Willis Ruptash, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the age of 84 years. Marshall was born in Willingdon, AB, on January 22, 1939, he attended High School in Hairy Hill, AB, and went on to graduate in 1957. He attended post secondary at The Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (now SAIT) in Calgary, AB, and obtained an Industrial Electrical Technology degree in 1959. He began working with ATCO (formerly Alberta Power) in Vegreville, AB, in 1959.

Marshall and Angie were married in Vegreville in 1963, and had three sons before being transferred with ATCO to Grande Prairie in 1971. Marshall and Angie added a daughter to the family in 1978. He continued to work with ATCO until his retirement in 1992.

Among Marshall’s interests, he enjoyed refereeing hockey, slo-pitch, camping, fishing, reading, bowling, and skating.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Angie (married for 59 years); his children: Jason, Aaron (fiancé Sabrina), Bart (wife Tracy), and Alita (husband Jeff); as well as grandchildren Justin (fiancé Morgan) and Zachary.

Due to Angie having allergies, the family asks that nobody send real flowers please.

Dear Angie, Jason, Aaron, Bart, and Alita My condolences on the passing of your patriarch. Your door was always open for Michael, Troy, James, Ed and I and I appreciate that still after all the years. We were young and rambunctious, but there was a place for us in your home. Time moves on whether we want it to or not, and eventually we all are parted. May the sorrow one day be returned to sweetness. Nick Meyer

Angie, it so sad to hear of Marshall's passing. He was a great colleague and mentor to me when we started working together in 1983 at Alberta Power. His caring and passion for his work was contagious. I can still see him taking that few minutes break smoking his pipe at his desk. We also have other fond memories of Christmas parties with you both at your house and company functions. Take care, Tony & Carol Parsons

My husband, Mitchel, and I still live on the Mereska family farm at Hairy Hill. Mitchel has such fond, fond memories of his boyhood friend, Marshall. One of them is that the Ruptash's had a television. Mitchel would run the quarter-mile to Marshall's house to watch "Highway Patrol" and "The Ed Sullivan Show." Marshall would come over here to play ball with Mitchel and his older 8 siblings! The old Ruptash place is still standing but delipidated. Any Ruptash who wants to come see their dad's old homeplace and take a walk down memory lane with my now 80-year-old hubby is welcome. Death is sorrowful but only a passing; and, I'm sure Marshall has a special place in heaven.
