Obituary For Marie Ljuden

Marie Ljuden, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Edmonton, AB, on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the age of 83 years.

Marie was born on August 11, 1942, in Grande Prairie, AB. At just 14 years old, she met Harold Ljuden—the love of her life—and the two began a journey together that would span more than five decades. They were married on January 26, 1962, and built a life filled with devotion, laughter, and family. Together, they raised two sons in Fort St. John, BC, before eventually settling in Grande Prairie.

Marie was known for her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, whether hosting friends for an evening of laughter or simply sharing a quiet moment over coffee. She loved golfing, camping, entertaining, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Her presence was a source of comfort and joy to all who knew her.

Marie was a numbers gal and played an integral role in the family-owned business, Nordbo Services Ltd. - a busing company based in Fort St. John. She took care of the books, drove buses, and ensured the employees were well fed and taken care of.

In her final years, Marie lived in Edmonton to be closer to loved ones, continuing to share her kindness, love for football, and wisdom with those around her.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Tom (Lisa) Ljuden and Tim (Holly) Ljuden; grandchildren Kimberly (Jordan), Hayden (Melissa) (Tom’s children), Parker, Miranda, and Matthew (Tim’s children); and great-grandchildren.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 2018, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave.) in Grande Prairie.

I met Marie many years ago when I worked at Mackenzie Place and looked after Harold. They were such a joy to get to know. Marie would always bring us staff baking treats to enjoy. She shared a few recipes with me and I think of her every time I make them, (Ginger cookies and one bowl chocolate cake). Sending you my condolences. She was a lovely lady !
