Obituary For Margery (Hauer) Maki

On Friday, March 27, 2026, Margery (Hauer) Maki, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at 97 years of age, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and love.

Margery was born on November 19, 1928, in Lamont, Alberta, to Ernest and Jane Madsen. She was the youngest of four children with siblings Eleanor, Lewis, and Iris. She grew up on a farm outside of Lamont, where she attended school and developed a lifelong love of horses, often riding bareback in her youth.

As a young woman, Margery accepted the Lord into her life while in high school, a faith that would guide and sustain her throughout the years. After graduation, she attended CBC Alliance Bible School in Regina, Saskatchewan. She later returned to Alberta, where she completed her nursing training in Calgary and began her career working at the Peace River Hospital.

In June 1950, Margery married Reuben Hauer, and together they built a life on a farm near Bruderheim, Alberta. They worked hard at mixed farming while raising their family of six children: Connie, Brian, Sharon, Brenda, Nelson, and Lewis. Margery devoted herself to her family, instilling strong values and a deep sense of love and faith that would carry on through generations.

Margery was predeceased by her husband Reuben in September 1982. Shortly thereafter, she became a grandmother, a role she cherished deeply as her family continued to grow.

In January 1987, Margery married Evert Maki, and they made their home in California, living first in San Jose and later in Redding. Together, they enjoyed golfing, traveling, and faithfully returning to Alberta each summer to spend extended time with their children and grandchildren.

Following the onset of health challenges, Margery returned to Alberta to be closer to her family. Her husband, Evert, passed away in July 2013.

Over the past 15 years, Margery made her home in Grande Prairie, Alberta, including the last 9½ years at the Grande Prairie Care Centre. During this time, she formed many meaningful friendships and was deeply appreciative of the compassionate care she received from the staff.

Margery will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her love of family, her strength, her spunk, and her gentle spirit. She remained present and connected with her loved ones right until her passing, a gift that will be treasured by all who knew her.

She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, and those that follow to carry on the heritage she has blessed us with.

Margery is survived by and will be deeply missed by her children: Connie (David) Nesbitt, Brian (Grace) Hauer, Sharon (Dave) Krill, Brenda (Keith) Mason, Nelson Hauer, and Lewis (Kari) Hauer; her stepchildren: Cindy (Jim) Kuehn, Janet (Steve) Loman, and Mike (Lee Ann) Maki; her grandchildren: Timothy (Sarah), Jonathan (Emily), Stacie, Lisa (Errol), Joel (Mandy), Sherri, Justin, Sarah, Josiah (Jessica), Caleb, Rayne, David (Amy), Heidi, Mark (Sarah), and Shannon; her great-grandchildren: Chance (Emma), Kylen, Leah, Myelle, Olivia, Jeremy, Holly, Brody, Ezra, Benjamin, Logan, Spencer, Brielle, Brennan, Arabelle, Annabelle, Elizabeth, Rowan, James, Henry, and Riker; and her great-great-grandchild, Finnegan.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Reuben Hauer and Evert Maki; her siblings, Eleanor Good, Iris Mehan, and Lewis Madsen; her stepson, John Maki; and her grandson, Danny Hauer.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home & Cemetery (16102 Fort Rd NW, Edmonton, AB). A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Assembly (11449-92 St, Grande Prairie, AB).

For those who cannot attend in person, both events will be live-streamed.
