Obituary For Lynda Erdely

Lynda Erdely of Stony Plain, Alberta, formerly of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the age of 84 years.

Lynda was the oldest of five siblings, born in Kingston, Ontario. She grew up in High Prairie, Alberta, where she attended school. She was married in March of 1962 to the love of her life, Bill. She had various jobs, working in the hospital answering switchboards, and as the front desk clerk at various hotels. She always said her greatest accomplishment was raising her three children and her sister.

Lynda had an infectious smile that seemed to make everybody smile back. She had a giggle that would make you giggle with her. She was good-natured, appreciated a funny joke, and valued the simple things in life. She loved flowers, butterflies, and country music.

Lynda loved to cook, often making cabbage rolls and other homemade meals for her family and friends. She liked to sew, do crafts, play bingo, kick up her heels from time to time, and loved to be around family and friends.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Cheryl (Garry); two sons, Brian (Darlene) and Darren (Lesley); granddaughters Haili (Dallas), Lauren (Chase), and Ashlyn (Adam); great-grandsons Haiden and Elek; sisters Debbie (Brian) and Sandra; along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Lynda was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill); parents John and Audrey; and siblings Bonnie, Frankie, and Ronnie.

The celebration of Lynda’s life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oliver's Funeral Home in Grande Prairie, Alberta, (10005-107 Ave), with a luncheon to follow in Oliver’s Tea Room. Afterward, burial and graveside interment will take place at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Ave and 112 St).

For those who cannot attend the service in person, it will be livestreamed. A link will be available shortly before the service begins.

    Darren, Brian, and Cheryl, I want to send you all my thoughts, prayers, and love today and let you know how much I love you. As you know, I cannot be there with you today to share in the love and memories of your mother as you lay Auntie to rest, but I will be watching online and sharing this difficult day with you from afar. Sandy and I were so grateful that we had the opportunity to see Auntie and give her our love before she left us. That is a memory I will always hold close to my heart. There are so many wonderful memories I hold dear, from visiting you all when we were very young in Edmonton, to when you moved to town, growing up together, going to school, and being part of what seems like an endless collection of family memories. Those are memories I will treasure forever. I know today will be filled with tears, heartache, laughter, stories, and countless memories as you celebrate your mother's life. As difficult as this day will be, remember that this is not the end. Her love for each of you will always live on in the people you are, in the way she cared for and loved you, and in everything she taught you as she raised you to become the wonderful people you are today. Although Auntie is no longer here with us, the love she gave you and the memories you created together will never leave you.     We have lost an angel but Linda has returned home. So many fond memories of Linda & my mom their partners Sandra and Karen going on many vacations together. Oh the stories that were told.Linda wasn't the greatest at directions so sometimes they were going to Winnipeg like the commercial LOL.All the ladies loved their music and joking around,playing games,just enjoying life. When my mom passed Linda would always say I miss my friend Eileen. Well now we miss our Linda it's like my Mom passing all over again.     Lynda was an awesome cousin, as with all we could pick up and visit without seeing each other for a long time. She gave me my first babysitting job looking after her children when i waas only 12 years old.     I am so sorry for your loss! My mom (Elsie Trudeau) and her were quite the pair. Lynda was such a wonderful, loving and caring individual!! She loved to joke and laugh. Her giggle really was infectious! I will miss her greatly and loved her company!! She is forever in our hearts and our memories!! She will not be forgotten!
