Obituary For Lorraine Mary Kolosky

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Mary Kolosky, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, on Friday, October 8, 2021, in the QEII Hospital, at the age of 79 years.

Lorraine was born in Nipawin, SK, on July 17, 1942. In 1954, her parents, Bernhard and Amanda Loewen, as well as her younger brother Bernhard, settled in Spirit River, AB. She finished high school there, then at 18 years old, applied for and was granted a ½ Section of her own homestead land. Later that year, she married Frank Anton Kolosky on December 12, 1960.

She and Frank were very active in clearing the land, growing crops, raising cattle and other animals, and six children until Frank passed away on January 4, 1991. Music was a big part of her life, she played guitar with her parents, taught her children, and sang at many gatherings through the years. She had a phenomenal voice to which there are certain songs that anyone who heard her sing will forever associate her voice to that song. She moved to Spirit River, then resided with her companion of 16 years, Nick Geleta, until his passing in 2017. She spent her remaining years in Grande Prairie.

Lorraine is survived by her brother Bernard; sister in-law Sandi; and their families; six children: Nick (Sue), Margaret, Ronald, Pamela (Barry), Christine, and Michael; nine grandchildren; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents; husband; younger brother Bryan Loewen; as well as grandchildren Peter and Patricia Barkhouse, and James Kolosky.

Due to Covid restrictions, a invite-only Celebration of Lorraine’s Life will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave).

A link will be available 15 minute prior to the service on Lorraine's obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

The Family would like to thank the staff and support workers at Pioneer Lodge and the QEII Hospital for the wonderful care that was given to Lorraine.

Memorial donations can be made to the Grande Spirit Foundation (9505 105 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7G9), or to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation (10409 98 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T0E 0Y0).
