Obituary For Loretta Hilda Warren

Loretta Hilda Warren, resident of Valleyview, AB, passed away peacefully, with her children beside her, after a long and brave battle with dementia, on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Mackenzie Place in Grande Prairie, at the age of 80 years.

She was born in Grande Prairie, AB, the second child of four children born to Thomas and Anna Clegg. She grew up on the family farm in Crooked Creek, AB.

Loretta loved children, whether it was the kids at school who called her Mrs. Warren, or her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or the baby in the grocery store line up who adored her playful and creative personality. Spring was spent planting a large garden and creating endless flowerpot arrangements. She kept the freezer full of baking and the cold storage stocked with canning. Sunday’s were church and her strong faith in God. Summers, Loretta spent endless years supporting her family and their rodeo dreams; berry picking of every kind across the Peace Country; golfing and fair entries and judging. Winters were great for crocheting and sewing. All seasons were full of community volunteering. She will always be remembered for her sense of humour, gift of gab and love for country music. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Loretta is survived by her loving partner Merv Sylven. She will be fondly remembered by Jim Warren and their children: daughter Colleen (Colin Shaver) of Valleyview, AB, and son Rod (Jennifer) of Big Valley, AB, and daughter in-law Colleen of Stettler, AB; eight cherished grandchildren: Riley (Morgan), Ria (Travis), Bailey (Calvin), Taylor, Colton, Hayden, Cole, and Landon; her sweet great-grandchildren: Ripp, Lowyn, Callahan, Cali, Cori, Brenna, Thomas, Kennedi, and Rylin; sister Carol Bateman of Creston, B.C; brother Larry (Ena-May) Clegg of Crooked Creek, AB; brother in-law Glen Sutley of Crooked Creek, AB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews she treasured dearly; along with her loved Kramps cousins, relatives and dear friends.

Loretta was predeceased by her parents; oldest son Rick; sister Linda Sutley; as well as nephews Greg Sutley and Darwin Clegg.

A Funeral Mass for the late Loretta Hilda Warren will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 1:00pm, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Valleyview (4104 51Ave), with Father Micheal presiding. Inurnment at Sturgeon Heights Cemetery to follow. Luncheon to follow at Sturgeon Heights Community Hall.

Memorial Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and NWT (102, 9823 116 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B4).

So sorry to hear of Loretta's passing! We spent a lot of time together when Garth & I were first married! Loretta & Jimmy had Rick & Colleen & Rodney wasn't here yet! Then for probably 10 years we got to see them the night before Rio Grande Rodeo when they would come & stay over night! As the years went by we had many great memories! We were very sad to say we were unable to attend her service! Life seems to get in the way sometimes & you can't always do what you want! Our sincere condolences to all the family! She was a very special lady! Garth & Rose Koll & family!

I had the privilege of working with Loretta for many years at O.A.P. She was always willing to help anyone, caring and kind to everyone and the kids at school loved her. You could hear the love in her voice when she spoke about her kids and grandkids. She touched many lives and was a very special lady. Her loss will be greatly felt.

My condolences to the family. Loretta taught me as I child and I was very fond of her. I knew her as an adult as well. I knew her when she came to south valley. I saw her often when I visited my stepdad. I know how hard this was for the family. I am so sorry 😞 I hope you find peace and closure. Take care ❤️

My favourite memory of Mrs. Warren was her nickname for me. I used to always have a pudding in my lunch so she called me pudding. Years later as an young adult, I was in a play and she came up to me and said I can't believe that's was my "pudding" up on stage! My condolences to the family.
