Obituary For Linda Noreen Mayer

Linda Noreen Mayer, resident of Huallen, AB, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021, in Beaverlodge, AB, at the age of 65 years and went to be with her saviour, Jesus Christ.

Linda was born July 22, 1955, to John and Doreen Mayer in Beaverlodge. As a young girl, she loved living on the farm near many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She attended school in Beaverlodge and went on to be a cook for a living in numerous places, one of which was Cold Lake, AB, cooking for the Military. While there she met her husband and best friend David Launey, they would return to live in the Huallen area until her passing. Linda also worked for the county of Grande Prairie, AB, as a homecare aide for several years.

Linda enjoyed music and started singing at an early age. Her brother, sister and cousins sang as a group called the Country Cousins. Later in life, she desired to record a CD with them and her desire was fulfilled. Linda also enjoyed doing artwork and writing stories. She wrote a children’s book, and her second book, about stories from her youth, will be published soon. Another love of Linda’s was gardening, and she was involved in the Wembley Gardening Club and also the Wembley Historical Society.

Linda will be sadly missed by her husband David Launey; sister Kay (Dan) Rawlyk; brother John (Judy) Mayer; nieces and nephews: Dan (Teresa) Rawlyk, Mitchell (Candace) Rawlyk, Kathy (Jamie) Best, Derek Mayer, Jordan (Jill) Mayer, Jared (Hope) Mayer, and families; as well as David’s parents Henry and Beverly Launey from Nova Scotia; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Linda was predeceased by her parents John and Doreen Mayer; grandparents: Clifford and Ella-Mae Aldred, John and Katherine Mayer; nephew Steven Rawlyk; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Linda’s family would like to thank Dr. Presley, and hospital staff for all your compassionate care for her while she was in the hospital.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at 10:00am at St. Johns Lutheran Church, in Wembley, AB (Directions: Highway 43 West of Wembley to Range Road 91, then 2 miles South).

Prayers and deepest sympathy to all of Linda's family and friends. She held a special place in our hearts and brought us so laughter and joy with her stories. What a magnanimous personality she was! Now at home in he4r heavenly mansion... free of sorrow and pain... may we "speak her name" so that she will always be remembered. Legacies are born of such fine people. My Sincere Condolences. Linda was the cook at the Green Dell in Wembley when I got my first job in the late '70's as a server at 14. The restaurant was busy with rig workers, construction guys, and sales reps, many who took great pleasure in giving us girls a hard time. It was overwhelming to say the least, but Linda ran a tight ship. She provided excellent food as well as on-the-job training for the staff of 'kids' working with her. I personally felt protected because she was 'from home', a member of my church family. One customer, not much older than myself thought it would be funny to trip me going by his table with mashed potatoes and peas on the plates. They ended up on 'the suit' at the next table. I was mortified. Buddy and his tablemates were roaring. Linda came out of the kitchen, and very quietly told the group that they were invited to leave and not come back until they learned to behave in public, then requested they apologize to me, which they did. The other patrons actually applauded. My favorite times were when the rush was over, everything cleaned and prepped for the next onslaught, Linda would sit at the table with us and share her stories. She treated us with respect and I felt very much a 'grown up', which I'm sure made me a better server and co-worker. The other memory I hold is when Linda would pick up her guitar and sing, she'd get a look on her face, like she was transported to a different place while she performed. It made me listen harder, her striking features softened. Linda had an impact on me at an important stage in life - and I'll remember her with a smile - always. posted by Patty (Schultz) Shields : My church family, growing up. : Jul 02, 2021
