I was shocked and saddened to hear that Linda had passed on. I knew she had been having health issues, but didn't expect this. I will miss her. My first thought was that I needed to get in the car and drive the six hours for the funeral, but after attending a family funeral today, I was reminded of how these gatherings are for families and community to share their grief. What Linda and I had was a unique friendship, just between the two of us, Thus I have decided to stay home and honor her in my own way. I will be thinking of you all tomorrow and would be there if I lived closer. In the meantime, I would like to share a little about how much you mother has meant to me throughout the years. We first met in the hockey rink as hockey mothers back in the eighties and got to know each other, back then, through our connection to the community, the schools, etc. discovering that we did have a lot in common in spite of our differences. However, we did not get close until we were reunited through facebook. Her job as a driver for Horse Lake, taking community members to Edmonton for health concerns meant that we had the opportunity to meet for coffee and or have her visit my office which, in turn. allowed us connect in ways that hadn't happened while I lived in Hythe. It was a special gift for me that I don't expect she shared with anyone else. It was just between the two of us. When I think of Linda I think of how important her culture, her community and her family were to her. Together we shared our pride, our love, our frustrations, our common interests (especially harvesting from the wild and sewing) and even tears with each other throughout the last fifteen plus years in person and through correspondence via facebook. She taught me a lot and I am grateful for it. She was one incredible woman. Like I said before, I will miss her but so thankful she was part of my life. May your memories ease the pain of her loss. I was very lucky in my early teaching career to get to work with Linda at Hythe Elementary. She was dedicated, kind and she valued the work she did there. She was one of a kind who cared deeply about the children of Horse Lake and Hythe. She was truly a wonderful colleague and over the years visiting with her whenever we met , I was lucky to also call her FRIEND. ❤️
